  1. Welcome to the party Alan 👋 buy the time your reading this I expect you've almost got it finished 😄 There must be a lot of SC15 out there on eBay as that's how I found mine. Which I need to finish running in and fitting to my IC version. The SC15 should go well, you didn't fancy going electric? Looking forward to seeing how you get on.
  2. Maiden my glow powered Spatman this week, fitted currently with my old OS 10Max. I just wanted to confirm to myself what she flew like with the 10, as I remember trying to flying my original with the OS10, but not successfully flying it. Well I can confirm she flew with the 10 ok, not sparkling performance anywhere near that of my electric version. Tried a couple of different props on the 3 flights I had, that didn’t make a lot of difference. So as mentioned on here some time ago it needs the 15, at least Ive proved it to myself. She did glide nicely though when the motor cut. It’s going to need some extra down thrust, that the other thing I learned, plus those long legs on the undercarriage have got to go. Every time I landed on our soft mossy grass, now mater how gently I tried, the moment the wheels touch it flipped her over on to her back. Same with trying to ROG. None of this was doing the fin and rudder any good. Next time out then an SC 15 upfront and modified undercarriage, or I could just leave it off for now, the undercarriage that is.
  3. I'm assuming that wasn't Fairy Liquid you were put in your stuntman! I wouldn't mind having a go at putting together a stuntman one day, and Ron Evens offer on page one still keeps tempting me. Trouble is, it would be joining an ever-growing project waiting list. On that subject of the project list, we have managed to tick one thing off. The glow powered Spatman restoration had it maiden Monday powered by my old OS 10max currently. Not much to report apart from the little wheels didn't like our grass, but she got away nicely from a hand launch and flew well, only needing a couple of things seeing to like, a little bigger prop, bigger wheels and tick over adjusting. The Hurricane has been put away for the time being until my old glass fiber MB5 (Not Bowman related!) has been complete and off the building board.
  4. Hi and Welcome Chris How wonderful to have your own little strip, enjoyed the video and the lovely countryside views. I noted you started with the Mini Skyman, last year I added one to may fleet built from the online plan and my scrap box of wood. I added ailerons to wing and converted it to electric. She still needs rudder in the turns so I may go back and build the original wing. Gentle flying in the good weather.
  5. It's time to update my database. Over the last few mouths, I've been busy with a restoration, a second little Spatman, the one I saw on eBay at the start of December. This time I'm keeping it original with a IC power. Starting with my OS10 Max, but will be replaced later with a SC15 for some big fun. She all done and read for her re-maiden some time soon. Then after Christina reached out with her late stepdad's 50-inch Hawker Hurricane, a deal was done and Monday the postman delivered it to my door. For a kit that was made around the 80s, it's in fantastic condition. So once my 2nd Martin Baker MB5 resto is complete, then the Hurricane will hopefully be the next one up. I'm thinking it's time to upgrade the power to electric, of course. A set of retracts will be a nice addition, after all it does say on the box "For greater realism can be fitted with retractable undercarriage". Having had a quick look at the versus Mk's I'm taken with the Mk IID Tank Busters of No 6 squadron with the two big cannons.
  6. Hi gents, As some of you may know I’ve really got into building the old Bowman kits of late, the fleet contains 5 examples currently. Well I’ve just acquired one more from a lady’s late stepdad estate. It’s a built-up fuselage version Hurricane un-started and in it’s original box. I’ve had a good look through it, and its all looks very nine and still in very good condition, plus there’s are some of the additional bit’s in the box. One thing I have notice is the joining method of the foam wing panels and the aileron linkages are different between the this and the glassfibre kit. I assume these were little upgrades over time. Can anyone out there who built one of these back in the day, remember if there were issues with the wing panels coming apart? The plan for this kit when space on the building board allows is to, convert it to electric and add a set of retracts and steerable tail wheel. The instruction show details for the Mk IID and having a look at some images of the Mk IID on line I think I’ll go with it.
  7. Well me second Spatman is already to fly. The OS 10 Max has come out of hibernation after the best part of 30 years, or since it was last in a Spatman! We put a tank of fuel through her today, so the only thing stopping aviation is the weather. Once she flown a few times with the 10 then the plan is to swap it out with the SC 15. This way I’m going find out Just how much more fun they are with a 15, of course bicycle clips will be on standby.
  8. A little bit more done, been busy with the ironing, and getting the control surfaces fitted and hinged.
  9. Hi Jeff, we are keeping it simple and sticking to film, not literally you understand! 🤣 I have a colour scheme in mind so hopefully I’ll make a start on that today. Santa was good to me, so we have the engine for it. It’s second hand but new in box. Started making a test stand for it yesterday, it needed a good amount of 3in1 to free it up from its years of sitting. I was a bit worried by how stiff it was at first, but having let the oil do its work it feels nice now, ready for a couple of tanks of fuel before being fitted. Happy New Year 🥳
  10. Took some time out yesterday from wrapping and shopping, do some more of the rebuild. Top deck on, both control rods finishes. I've also installed the steerable tailwheel and added "T" nuts for the undercarriage. Don't understand why the original owner offset the bolt hole in the undercarriage or used such large bolts, but hay it will do the job for now. So she's just about ready for covering.
  11. Not going as quickly as hoped, something to do with shopping for this Sunday!! Any how the rebuild is under way new servo mounts are in as are the new servos. New pushrods coming along & fuel tank cleaned and refitted. New Horizontal stab and top decking under the fin is now glued in place. One mod thats going in is, a steerable tail wheel (Idea taken from the Quickie). As for power, I was tempted to try my OS10Max again, but decided to take the advice I had before and fit a 15. Can’t wait until Christmas Day, and that lovely look of surprise on my wife’s face when she see what she brought me for Christmas 🎄🎁 🤣
  12. Thanks Jeff I'm thinking of doing the same, it just looks a bit odd otherwise. Good day yesterday got it all strip down cleaned and new tail parts made.
  13. The new arrival and my old trusty electric version. This one seems to have a much taller undercarriage, it looks original but the difference in size from my original?
  14. Well, I couldn’t help my self when this appear on EB. I did hold out for bit as it was collection only and an 8hr round trip away, that was until the seller agreed to posting. So that’s what happened and the next day there it was on the doorstep, mostly intact except for the tail which had taken a hit though the packaging. I was half expecting that anyway. On closer inspection the hit had neatly punched out the horizontal stab out of its slot, showing up the weak glue joints. In fact its done me a favour save me the trouble of removing it, as looking at the standard of workmanship and ware and tear, I would have wanted to replace it anyway during the refurbishment. So now the plan is to strip it back to bare wood, then refurbish from the ground up, keeping her as a glow powered example to go along side the electric one.
  15. The newest model to join my fleet, 3DLAB Print J3 piper CUB in SUNLU LW-PLA. My challenge for this year was to get to grips with CAD & 3D printing, still on the steep part of the learning curve, but I’m happy with the results so far. For a first attempt at a 3D printed model and it’s all gone very well, with no real issues. Flew it for the first time last week, very impressive! Power 2830-950 motor, 3S 1000mAh battery and 9x5 GWS prop. Haven’t weighed it yet but it flys like a very light weight model, so don’t know if I’ll bother. There’s a set of floats ready for it, so if the weather gets really bad this winter ⛈☔️ I’ve got all bases covered.
  16. Do a troll through EB to night as you do and spotted this unloved Spatman. Too far from me to collect, so I'll pass. Anyone else interested? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/394268262954?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160811114145%26meid%3D1e4081acb68c4ab7a3c95a1508093b2e%26pid%3D100667%26rk%3D6%26rkt%3D8%26sd%3D234538749728%26itm%3D394268262954%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2351460&_trksid=p2351460.c100667.m2042
  17. I’ll start. There is only one for me, the Spatman. For such a small simple model it’s just so much big fun. It’s the model I always take to the field and fly in weather I wouldn’t fly some of my bigger models. It’s amazing how much you can throw it around with just the rudder and elevator. Rolls are great fun, full throttle and full rudder and around she goes, there even better if you pop the gear off.
  18. Here’s a fun little question for everyone. If there could be one Bowman kit brought back to life, which one should it be and why?
  19. Amazing that one model was sold under 3 different kit makers, even the same model being used for the box art. Not one I came across unfortunately but it looks like it was a tidy sports model. I hope you find a cowling BSR. Christina, Hi welcome to the thread and sorry for your loss. The Hurricane kit is certainly is worth selling, especially if it’s untouched and in box. A very rare find, I’ll message you with some advice on some reliable ways to move it on, just be wary of anyone trying pull a fast one.
  20. Thanks Andy, she’s ready to go with differential setup on the servos arms, just waiting for the opportunity to give it ago.
  21. It accrued to me that I never posted any pictures of the finished Mini Skyman, so better late than never, here is my rendition complete with electric conversion and aileron wing. The good news is, it has flown several times this year, and will ROG. My little home-build kit motor has just enough power on days when there is no more than a light breeze, not that you would want to fly her on any other days. The amount of adverse yaw from the ailerons was not what I was expecting, but with a good helping of rudder, or just rudder, it turns. I'm not entirely happy with the look of the wing and the mix of tissue & film covering, so may make a standard wing with tissue covering at some point.
  22. The latest build from my workshop, a take on the Mini Skyman from a Bowman’s model kits plan. We’ve made a few changes to the original for starts the Cox049 has been replaced with a home brew brushless motor hidden under a resins printed dummy 049. The other change is I’ve added ailerons to the main wing and reduced the dihedral. So apart from the battery hatch the rest of the model is built to the plan. Being a model from the 80’s it needed an 80’s scheme, which hopefully works. All that’s needed now is for the wind to play ball, and we will see if the 60W from my old motor will cut the mustard.
  23. Bowman Model kits - Mini Skyman. It’s been awhile since we had any new post here, so here goes. Having just finished building a small retro Chicken Hawk 1/2A model for a friend, I was looking for a quick build for myself. I’d downloaded the Mini Skyman plans some time back and been tempted to make a start on it ever since, I also had some low quality balsa sheets (from an online purchase possibly late at night!) in my scrap box I’d been wanting to use up. The small size of the Skyman parts meaning I could get most of them out of the usable wood. A couple of weeks back then I started putting together a kit of parts, and apart from the strip wood and some ply, I think all the wood came out of the scrap box. I’ve made two major mod’s to it as you can see from the photos, first I’ve converted it to electric using a shocky motor I made from a kit years ago, and using a 2S LiPo & an 8x4 prop. Hopefully this will be an suitable replacement for a Cox 049. Next up after a lot of back and forth I’ve decided to add ailerons to the wings. It’s coming nicely and I’m working on the covering, I did think about doing all in Tissue but I see the instruction say the prototype was covered in solafilm. As I’ve got plenty of tissue left over from the last project, I’m doing the fuselage in tissue and the wing in film . Next I wanted a retro looking scheme from the 80’s and its coming on well, it sort of reminds me of some old airline ?
  24. Not had that happen as I stopped using Hobby King when they closed the UK warehouse.
  25. Hi Gents, My T30 is finished and had one quick check flight. I have a question about the two hatches on the bottom. I assume they were used with an IC version, as a place for the RX battery. My question is, at one end the covers are held with two 3 mm bolts, but nothing at the other, and no notes in the manual (you would expect nothing less), I’ve added wooded blocks and screwed them down. What has everyone else done?
