  1. Incedently would the hornets be the same ones i saw at Auckland airport back on the 26th March, my father-in-law told me the NZAF had just bought them and there were dozens or plane spotters around the airport as we left all straining for a look. There was a re-fueling plane and a large transporter also with them.
  2. We got back from NZ on Monday having been on a family visit for a few weeks. We were in Mount Maunganui when the Zero you had down at Wanaka flew over. I think it had stopped at the airport there...gutted i didn't get to go and see it as many locals did and even more gutted when i found out that Wanaka wasn't anywhere near where we were. Never mind we'll be emigrating later this year so its on my list of must do's when we get there.
  3. Working for one of the teams as i do, even i tend to agree that Bahrain wasn't exactly riviting but then it usually is if you remember..I'm going to wait until we've been to Melbourne and Malaysia in a couple of weeks and things have settled down a bit, then i think we could start to see thngs come alive some more. (he says with his fingers crossed). As far as Beckham goes i heard it could be several weeks before he can carry out any more modelling and promotional activity...so sad!.
  4. Will be flying - Beautifully detailed scale models made at half the cost the are today due to the advance in materials and they'll be made over here as China/Hong Kong won't be cheap any more.I also like the idea of Nano Lipo's in self powered wireless servos.Won't be flying - British Airways!
  5. IMO a good pilot wouldn't have tried a roll at such a low hight with a plane that's barely powerful enough to drag its backside round the sky. He was just lucky that time. Bet he won't try that again in a hurry. Its always good to laugh at the Yanks though so cheers Kelvin you've made my Monday morning.
  6. As consumers living in a global market we are entitled to buy our products be it models ,food, cosmetics whatever from wherever we want to. The internet has allowed us the freedom to do as we wish with our money. It is harsh that our LMS's are slowly disappearing and yes i wish it could be different too but as with many of our manufacturing industries they have slowly but surely dwindled away because we have priced ourselves out of the global market, How many of us really stop to wonder where our food etc comes from and why we staring at food shortages in the not too distant future, Its all well and good while we can still import/afford the strawberrys from Spain and the prawns from Chile but what happens if for some money exchange (and its more that possible in the current climate) reason we can't. Oh dear its too late we've lost most of our food production and we're in deep doo doo. If/when this country comes out of this current recession(and i think we're still very much in it despite what the government tells us) people need to have a very hard think about whats just happened and why. Our greed and it has been greed over the years coupled with the complacency that we are the best and can charge accordingly etc has had us all believing we could go on charging more and more until now that is. All the years of living on our perceived wealth, house prices will always go up etc are now ending and its a very bitter pill to swallow. I think its natural progression that some things will be cheaper from where they can be produced at the cheapest cost and as normal humans we want the cheapest deal we can be happy with. As a country we need to adjust to that and quickly or face soaring import costs and a country in turmoil. At the rate things are going it won't be very long before we will be sifting through our land fills for plastic to sell to the Chinese!!. There will be those of you that sneer and mock at the thought of it but when you look at the writing currently been put on the UKs walls the future doesn't look very good does it. So what do we do as RC enthusiasts.....i'd A. Stock up on fuel for when that becomes prohibitivly expensive, and buy a wind turbine to charge our batteries or B. Emigrate to a country thats not 60million plus living on an island!. I intend to do that latter as soon as possible, we only have ourselves/government policies to blame. On a lighter note its warmed up a bit for the first time since last year and i might get some flying in before the end the week. Hooray!!!
  7. And while its been updated please could we include some Petrol engine data. ta
  8. 37   IC Sport IC Warbird   Used to live next to Sutton Park (Sutton Coldfield) and watched guys flying there when i was about 4 years old(some of my earliest momories come to think of it). Was instantly hooked but could only afford to do it for myself in the last couple of years. Lovin-it!
  9. I've been using a Traco 12v supply on my Logic RC Typhoon charger for ages now with no problems. You just need to make sure the power supply can push out the same or just a bit more than the charger. In your case 5amps. I might even have a spare one in the garage i can sell you. PM me if you're interested. I'll have a look later to see what amps it can deal with.
  10. I have a Boomerang that was my trusty trainer and it has an Irvine 53 in it already. It just so happens that i was thinking of selling it on minus engine and radio gear, soooooo If you're interested and not too far from either Northamptonshire or Oxfordshire maybe i can be of help? PM me if you're interested.
  11. I've just recieved a my new CMPro Zero and before i do anything to it i'm thinking about getting the whole thing sealed before i start putting my sticky little mitts all over it. After having a look around i think the way forward would be to do the whole lot in half a dozen coats of Poly-C (other sealers are available) . Would this be a good idea?. Will it give enough protection in the engine bay of a petrol model? The covering on the wings doesn't seem like the thickest in the world but then i'm used to solartex so maybe my hopes are a little too high. Anybody got any thoughts?
  12. I've heard the plans will be in a future issue of RCM&E. Lump of packing foam and a coulpe of Fly-Cams...job sorted! ...might put a flashing blue LED on mine too. This country's gone mad.....might as well join in.
  13. Mode 1 Northamptonshire Davntry (DMAC) Instructor   Can i just say as part of the "Under 40 years old " bunch i grew up with Playstations and early computers etc where the throttle was generally on the right...hence i fly mode 1. Just feels right to me. I raced cars back in the 80s and i think they were mode 2 but then computers came along and the rest as they say is history.
  14. Yes Andy i've been flying my Pulse XT tail dragger for over a year now and don't find it any more difficult to land than ye olde trike. I would admit that the Pulse is very forgiving but i fly in all conditions and just find that it likes to land under a bit of power as i would suspect most scale models do. If you can tip stall a Pulse you must be flying way too slow. Nice work on the Sea Fury Shaun..it is, only IMO one of the best looking planes around.....i think if i go scale i'd want to have a dabble with some "special extras". A scale working exhaust would be my first challenge. Shame the oil slicks down the side would need constant attention but i think they'd be worth the trouble. Mmmmm.
  15. I've decided that the time has come to make the next step into a scale type model. I initially was going to plump for a Seagull Sea Fury but have now started looking seriously at a CMPRO Zero. Has anyone got any thoughts or pointers that i might overlook as a first scale job? The first thing i noticed is that the Zero has no flaps...would this be an issue on such a model?. Your help would be very much appreciated.
  16. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1237180/THE-WIDER-VIEW-Three-years-making-boys-dream--ultimate-home-model-aeroplane.html   Very impressive, but something tells me he doesn't get out much!
  17. ok i've read the book front to back and can't find anything to help....the only thing which i've just remembered is that the switch that changes the model from AEROPLANE to V,TAIL to NORMAL HELICOPTER to CCPM HELICOPTER goes from C (for CCPM HELICOPTER) to C with a small 1 in the middle....am i getting warmer?
  18. Yes it is a the Art-tech Shark 450. and yes he is using the supplied tranny.......do i suspect an AHHHHHHH that explains it kind of moment coming up?
  19. Hi Gents It would seem that the Esky EK5 servo's that replaced the original Art-Tech AS-100 work in the opposite direction, thats why the servo's all now go down and not up when throttle is applied. Just reversing the channels just confuses the mix. Has anyone else come across this before? Is it easy to reverse the servo operation by changing the wiring?
  20. If its anything like my Enya 54-4 one of the screws is a slow speed screw and the other the high speed so the fact that one is very loose may explain why she won't idle so well. If its too far out she'll be flooding herself at idle.
  21. (test done with the motor discon'd) If the channel reversing swicthes are adjusted so that all 3 servo's move up together when the throttle is affectively increased that is i believe the correct way for it to work, please correct me if i'm wrong!!, but if the motor was connected at this time it would fail to work at all in this direction. If i then reverse ch3 the swash pulls down as throttle increases and the throttle operation is reversed.....ie all the way down is flat out, and all the way up is off and trust me it does work in that direction! (so that i would say is also normal) Its as if the ESC isn't recieving the throttle signal when the reversing swicth is in the correct operating position. I've never heard of this before though?
  22. when reversing channel 3 the collective pulls down as throttle stick is pushed up and the motor is flat out when it should be off?
  23. Are you saying reverse channel 6 and channel 3 and try again......i'll try it now and get back to you.
  24. A friend has recently rebuilt his Shark 450 and after much "tinkering around" he's got to a stage where from what i can see everything works correctly ie the collective/left/right/fwd/back etc but the problem is that the motor won't run up unless we reverse ch3 which has the desired effect on the motor but makes the collective work in reverse throwing the whole thing into a mess. My fixed wing brain can't understand heli's so a few pointers would be much appreciated. Cheers
  25. I thought i got mine from Als Hobbies so i had a look and can't see them but he does do his own brand (£1.50 for 2) in the "Plugs and Leads" section. I'll have to look back into my reciepts and i'll let you know tomorrow. Very handy little clips they are too...i use them on wing extn's and even my reciever battey just in case it comes loose (god forbid) during some extreme moves. They just flick off when you're all done for the day and i put them in my pocket for the wife to find just before she puts my jeans in the wash.
