  1. Yes I extended to cowl, but not by much, to accommodate the Saito 40. That's the wire blender I have. It wasn't the bending that was frustrating but trying to get the trailing edge strut the correct length so the the centre of the leading edge and trailing edge the correct height from the fuselage. I would be a little concerned about using a 52, as the c of g is spot on without any additional weight with the 40fs

  6. Finally got the wing struts bent so that the wing is positioned correctly. My LMS will be disappointed, as I'll no longer need to buy more piano wire!
  7. I'll post some pictures soon.
  8. I'm currently building Peter's version of the DVIII as my winter project. Just the cowl to be built then it's ready for its maiden, but, I can't find any online stock of 1/6th scale wheels, so my LMS has ordered some for me but delivery is unknown. The hardest part of the build has been silver soldering the u/c legs. This is my first attempt and it has taken a lot of practice to get it right.
  9. Hi Tim fantastic looking model. Could you advise me please regarding attaching solartex decals onto solartex covering. I'm currently covering my Fokker DVIII with solartex and looking at various options for the decals, I had not considered using solartex for the decals. My model is ic powered, where as you are using electric, so the exhaust may be an issue. I would appreciate your view. Thanks
  10. I think you will find it is a matter of personal opinion. Ask this question at the field and you will find not much flying more heated argument about the fuel on and on...... Here's my opinion. I used Contest 10 and when my LMS ran out of stock I contacted Optifuel and was advised that you can use 4/12 in 2 & 4 stroke engines which I have done ever since, only using Contest 10 when opti is out of stock. This was back when opti had just entered the market. I find that there is less exhaust gundge with opti. Engines run exactly the same on both. You now order through Fastlad website and its next day delivery.
  11. Which warehouse? You select which warehouse you want to buy from in your basket. Reading the gumph, it so you can buy from more than one warehouse in a single order, good luck with that one!
  12. Hi Just to be a bit different: 1 Aermacchi SF260 2 Bulldog 3 Percival Prentice
  13. I have just died this on my mac and it worked ok. Highlight the content of a thread with the mouse, including pictures, copy & paste into a pages doc (word) and edit.
  14. The main issue is that the u/c is too far back and the model noses over even with full up elevator. I packed the rear u/c plate to so that the wheels point forward a bit. I used a piece of 1/8th ply which helped. Now it tracks ok with full up but takes off after only a couple of meters. I've yet to master balancing the elevator and full power to get it rolling and taking off in a more realistic manor. Flying is great and low passes look superb. Landing! You need to keep a little power on to bring it in, if you try to glide in it only floats until it stalls, and I belly land leaving the u/c retracted. Trying to land using the u/c I found is fraught with problems I could not keep it from nosing over, bending the u/c. I'm not the most proficient flier but have no trouble with my sports models, but it could be me thats the problem. My instructor saying was, "its not the model, its me too high too fast"! Have plenty of practice approaches before you attempt to land, come in low with just enough power to keep it flying and cut the power seconds before you land. Just ask if you come across any issue. Good luck.
  15. Maxg I have the same model and have no idea what the attachment is, the model looks and flies really well. You haven't said what your experience of flying foam warbirds is, so if you want any advice just say, as it has a few quirks as many of the similar models have. Regards Russ
  16. I can't be the first or only one to have an issue with the digital archive but the forum is a bit bare on this issue. I recently upgraded my subscription to include the digital option, mainly to have access to the back issues, but once activated I can only read the current issue online, the archive is only accessible for purchase. Emailed help at pocketmags and was advised to try reactivating my account without success, notified them of this and I've not heard a word since! Whilst I'm waiting for pocketmags to reply, has anyone on the forum a solution I could try. Thanks
  17. I'm building a profile fuselage model from a plan converting a control line model to rc. I want to try different engines and therefore don't want to drill the mounting holes directly into the bearer, but would rather mount the engine onto a plate which I can then screw into the mount. I'm sure I've seen this on models, but not sure what materials were used. Any help greatly appreciated.
  18. Thanks to everyone for their comments. will follow them up,
  19. I use a lipo checker, when balancing it shows the individual cell voltage, if using it as in a battery checker it's show sthe capacity as 62%.
  20. I'm changing my rx batteries over to life 1100amh 6.6v. Having charged them to 3.6 v per cell, which is the recommended max charge, they are only charged to 62% of their capacity. If they are charged beyond 3.6v I get an alarm saying cells are over charged. Why are they fully charged but not to their full capacity?
  21. I've always found that when inverted fitting the glow stick is really awkward and fiddly, now I know why you fit a remote. Doh!
  22. Thanks guys. i've had a read through the other threads regarding this and found there isn't a definitive answer. I'm looking at an extension of about 3in. And this may not be a problem.
  23. I'm having difficulty positioning esc, battery & motor into a plan build miles magister. I'm sure I have read somewhere that you should not extend the leads from the esc to the motor or battery, I'm looking to place an extension between the battery & esc, is this ok?
  24. I have used Slec to redraw and laser cut, excellent service.
