  1. Seeing as im from Cumbria and can see most of those hills from my house, id be interested. i walk most of them regular in the warmer months, and have flew one or two. But you really dont need to go to the extremes of trekking up Skidders to get good air. DS is best on Catbells, and its not a bad walk, but parking is a nightmare.  Whilst on the subject of flying in the lakes, Copeland Model Club is holding a coastal slope soaring day on 29th of May and North Lakes Soaring Assosciation holds a similar day on the fells on the 30th and 31st.  3 days of excellent flying is guaranteed.   Ill keep following this thread as a bit of mountain flying sounds appealing   Shaun
  2. Hiya Tim, long time no see.   Copeland Model Club intend to hold two glider fly-ins this year. The first is on Saturday May 29th. The second, Saturday August 28th.   Meeting place for both events is Lakes College Workington, CA14 4JN. We plan to meet on the college car park at 10am, decide a suitable site and take it from there.   Unfortunately, our website is no longer active, so all enquiries will have to be directed to me. I can be contacted at [email protected]   Look forward to seeing some familiar faces from last year   Feel free to get in touch if you have any questions,   Shaun
  3. How do fella, how are you and the Mrs?  Havent been in the modelling scene much lately, been up to other things. Our fly-in is this weekend, so I'm busy sorting models out ATM.
  4. I know Timbo'll probably moderate this post, but my mini blade is for sale in the classifieds,  and its a real bargain. Go check it out,   Ta much,   Shaun
  5. Cheers Tim, helpful as always mate, will give them a try   Shaun
  6. Hi all, im looking for a DX7 tx only, i already have a good stock of receivers that i use with my JR 3810 and spekky module. Ive had a quick look on't net, but haven't found anyone doing a tx only package. Can anyone help???   Thanks,   Shaun
  7. Whats all this then? I go away for a few weeks, only to come back to find Mr E's been posting after getting out of the wrong side of the bed again, lol. Go and take it out on a septic tank on RCG Andy....   Shaun
  8. A few of our club members attended, it being two years since our last visit. We were quite surprised by the way the flying display has changed in two years. It was VERY heavily jet turbine biased,  & once you've seen one of them do a few circuits, you've seen 'em all. No helis either, hardly any low level aerobatics.    Standing in the crowd on the flightline, a lot of other people were echoing my thoughts also.    Perhaps it is something the more knowledgeable could discuss???   Shaun
  9. You enjoy a good walk through those bushes dont you Ned?   Seriously though, thanks to everyone who attended our first real slope soaring fly-in, last years was a non event, bit like last years summer really.   Hopefully, the slope fly-in in August will have a similar attendance, as we all had a good weekend.   Its been an honour showing people our slopes, and I hope to get the chance to do it for many years to come   Shaun
  10. Finally found the cardreader, so heres some piccys   I rushed it together last night for the fly in, but am very pleased with it, goes like stink, & flies v.well inverted. Tim didnt get any stick time as I was enjoying it sooo much i didnt put the tranny down. At the end of the day, I flew it right down off St. Bees head, right across to the golfcourse slopes via the promenade then landed in front of the car park.  Id say that makes for a pretty good maiden flight.     Shaun
  11. Photos for everyones entertainment. Flying took place on St. Bees head.     Timbo going in for the kill^ Chicken Glider saw some action too   Daves model in the gorse bushes, ouch!   Dave after a long trek through those gorse bushes   Flying chicken mixing it in the combat zone
  12. Propogandhi eh? Wouldnt have anything to do with Propagandhi, one of the best bands around would it?  Good luck with the job hunt, Id love to be able to do something like that,   Shaun
  13. Timbo will be maidening mine tomorrow, im just finishing it now, it came out very tail heavy, i used black tape on the elevons, so perhaps this is the cause? Im still ratching out my scraps of lead to get the CG sorted, and the radio needs setup, but that can be done in the AM. I have pictures, but Wifey has put the card reader in a safe place...   Shaun
  14. Ok, so its here. In 24 hours, I'll be loading the car and setting off to the meeting place. As i type, some of you are already on the road, and some are already here. It looks like the majority of flying wll take place In the sleepy little town of St.Bees, either on the head itself, or on the much smaller golfcourse slopes. Its going to be interesting watching those 5m scalies trying to land. If you fly on the golfcourse slopes, its sometimes best to land down on the beach, and I think the tide will be in around midday....   15mph forecasted on the head, so it isnt looking too shabby. Ive charged 3 sets of batteries for my camera, so I promise lots of pictures, which should be on these pages on Sunday.
  15. Well, Ive been flying for two days solid on the sim,its currently running on my old laptop with the quality turned to high, this thing is a 4 yr old Packard Bell Easynote and its been OK, will try installing it on the new machine once I get it built and networked.  So far, I'm really impressed, Ive only flew helis once or twice and I've learned so much already, I can hover, nose-in too, transition into a circuit, fly figure 8 circuits, even tried the autorotation comp and got a 4.1.  Ive been flying the JetCopter mostly and will stick to it unless anyone has any ideas.    All this seems too easy though, is there something I'm missing?   I havent touched anything in the menus, only added some expo to soften the centres a bit.   Any help or comments would be welcome
  16. No, ours is only the saturday, North Lakes Soaring Assosciation host the sunday and monday on the inland slopes. We all know each other as we have flown together for years and club relations are very good   Shaun
  17. Camper? B&B wasnt it? lol    20mph min. westerlies have been ordered, along with a big serving of sunshine.  Out of three days, one of them is bound to turn out OK, right???   Ive got the sim to help hone my 3d skills, i have a few foamies, but flexible though they are, even EPP 3d models tend to break when you rolling harrier them into a tree.  I fly them in the woods nearby when the wind is up, the trees offer weather protection, but are a bit tougher than me models.
  18. Thanks for the speedy reply gents, I can see trouble brewing in our house mind, now that Ill be spending all my time flying inside, outside and building in the shed, the wife isnt going to be a happy camper.   Shaun
  19. Had the same problem as you Weasel. Ordered the Seagull edge 540 EP for me Dad, sent an email after a week, only to get the silent treatment, got the runaround on the phone also. It eventually arrived a month after the order was placed. Will be wary in the future,   Shaun
  20. Title says it all really, does anyone know if i need to buy any adaptors, or will I be OK? Im wanting to use it for fixed wing 3D practise, but Im also wanting to learn to fly the eggbeaters.   Any help is appreciated,   Shaun
  21. Ive wanted a weasel for ages. I would have been quite happy getting hold of a weasel pro. I didnt  know prior to the release that Michael was going down the moulded route for kit production, only that he was 'restructuring'. So, mine was going to be taped up whatever happened. Ive only put a bit off CW along the leading edges of the wing and fin, the rest will be packing tape. I might, in the future, remove it all and insert the magnets for 3 piece wing. It is, after all, only a toy aeroplane.....
  22. Ive only got the top covered with tape, will work on it on my days off. Hopefully the wind will cooperate for next Saturday, might even let Timbo do the honours if i dont get it maidened through the week....
  23. Im M2 to the core Tim, hope you ambi-whatsits.....
  24. Tim, dont ask about the Weasel, its grieves me to say its till exactly the same as it was in the fifth picture down, and they were taken a week ago now?  Matthews will probably get finished before mine. Incidentally, if you're listening Matthew, are you going with the 3 or 1 piece wing option???  Think Im going down the 1 piece route.     I finish my 12hr shifts on sunday night and roll into 16 days off, so im hoping to get a few things finished sharpish. Will have it finished for you to fly Tim, promise ya    Just gotta hope the wind Gods are on my side, these Easterlies better get a move on and disappear....   Shaun
