  1. Hi chaps. I picked up a DX6i TX as a back up from a club mate a while ago. It wasnt until later that I noticed the rudder rate switch is damaged and needs replacing. I can change it out ok, but was wondering if anyone has a source for a replacement switch? I could pop it down to Maplins but I never seem to have much luck in there.
  2. Thanks for the heads up. Its a bit big tbh and my wife would not appreciate me stinking her car out with petrol fumes!
  3. I have been looking at the Seagull one for a while now, a couple of guys at my club have them. Its about as big an aerobat as I can store and transport. Shame they have been discontinued...

A pic of the nearly completed fuselage. I have to decide on the covering soon. I bought some dark blue Easycoat, but now I'm not sure if I should use glass and Eze-kote resin instead.

The motor has arrived. I have gone for a HET Typhoon Xtreme 3814 1070kv, which looks very similar to the OS motor they tried. I also have a Hobbywing 40A controller. It will probably turn a 11x7 e prop and my 3S 2600 packs, although if the 3000 packs work better they will go in. I have the slightly bigger version of the motor in my Ripmax Mustang on the same prop. A good 5mm shaft and what looks like good build quality are worh a few extra quid compared to another motor I have.

Here is my progress so far. Wing going together, ready for the upper wing skins after fitting the servo extensions. Been a while since I built a kit, but going fine so far. The Super-phatic glue works well, but a bit of thin cyano would help in places.
  7. Hi guys. Are you brushing or spraying the Rustins? Will it go over enamel paint ok in your experience? Cheers
  8. I would like another 25 metres added to the end of the patch, and a 30cc P-51D Mustang to land on it!
  9. In honour of the great 'British' tradition of Black friday, are there any outlets offering bargains today and over the weekend?
  10. I dont believe that Prymol will work on a polyester film like Oracover. That needs keying then cleaning first with something like alcohol. I have used enamel paints on film and so far so good

My kit arrived yesterday. I thought I should 'check' it before my wife wraps it up for my birthday next week. I took a quick pic of the contents. I'm not sure but it looks like the battery may still go in through the wing, but I cant confirm that as yet.
  12. Hi everyone, I have just ordered the re-released kit of the Bearcat from SLEC. I had one of the original Balsacraft ones from ye olden days of Speed 600s and Sub C cells. As i understand it they have updated it for the modern kit we have available, so I expect it will get my 3S 2600 or 3000 packs now. I can't have it until my birthday (mid Nov) but I will 'check' its ok when it arrives
  13. I have made up a test piece of oracover painted with Hobby Flight enamel. I left it for a few days then gave it a coat of Aerokote matt wiped on with a bit of sponge (saves cleaning a brush!) It has gone on fine with no reaction, it seems to flex ok as its got to go over parts of an unsheeted wing. Hopefully when I put a drop of Contest 10 on it nothing will happen!

I still have a few cars, Associated B44, X factory X6 squared and Losi 8ight. I wish brushless and lipos were around in the late 90s onwards! Did a little bit of touring cars at WLRC too.

How about a Tamiya Grasshopper? I had one in ye olden days. Sturdy, spares are available and it has a smaller motor that can be upgraded when you are ready. A package deal is around the ?130 mark. I raced 1/10 off road for many years, until I lost my mojo
  17. Hi Mr.B My model is not terribly fast with the SC 1.08, it is fairly new though and I havent tried to ring its neck which I doubt would help. My club patch is fairly small and I would not want any less power personally. I have been thinking of trying a 15x8 rather than the 14x8 for a little extra pull. It has a thick wing and is never likely to be a speed demon. I believe others have flown it with a 90 so it should be fine. As far as the retracts go, they have caused me some bother when they were powered by a seperate 4.8v pack. One side seemed to get stuck after a few cycles, despite my care with the mounting. Whilst at the field I decided to connect them up via the 6v RX supply, and the sticking wheel came straight down. Touch wood since then they have been fine. I think the 4.8v AA pack struggled once the initial peak from charging had gone. I have read a number of people saying they work much more reliably on 6+ volts.Edited By stuey on 08/10/2014 09:34:58 Edited By stuey on 08/10/2014 09:36:37
  18. Hi chaps, thanks for the feedback. I did look into the Klass Kote, but have a couple of reservations. It looks like the smallest quantity I can get could be £30, and I'm not confident of spraying it through my airbrush without gumming it up. I have not seen much written about the JP stuff, might be worth a try.
  19. Hi, I have just bought some Hobby Flight enamel paint, and I will be repainting a part of my Seagull Sea Fury. I will be keying up the film and cleaning with IA before painting. Because I have money to burn it has a SC 1.08 two stroke, running on 10% nitro Contest 10 glow fuel (which I use in everything). I will need to fuel proof it, and I'm not sure what to try. I will be doing my best to make sure the film has adhered properly first, but it could still be prone to the odd wrinkle. I have used the old Warbirds colour clear on another model, but it has started to go through it. I also have some Aerokote, but I'm not sure how it will handle any wrinkling which could happen. Any suggestions or feedback please?
  20. I went on Saturday and got there just before ten, no real queue got straight in. Getting out was another story. Tried to get out at about 17.45 and watched nothing move for 20ish minutes. Decided to give up and had something to eat before trying again. I got out about 19.15 so about 1 1/2 hours after first attempt. There were rumours that someone had a bump getting out causing a delay, but after reading this lot I'm not so sure it wasnt poor management. Lots of queue jumpers too. At least I got there this time after the 6 hr round trip to get within 7 miles of Dunsfold.
  21. I spent 3 1/2hrs trying to get there yesterday before by luck hearing on the radio we would be turned away. Got within six miles! Traffic on the signed route was terrible, and as I am not a local did not know any alternative routes. Really disappointed and cheesed off to miss it. I have read that a lot of people are not happy. Good pics btw!
  22. I'm a bit confused here. So as I understand it Hobbyking won't accept a dispute regarding an order for 180 days, but if you feel you need to raise it through Paypal it has to be within 45 days? Does that mean Hobbyking wont deal with them because they want to wait 180 days (half a year!!!) before 'looking' into it?
