Won't let me edit a post

I have noticed that sometimes the forum will let me edit my post and sometimes it won't.

 

I just completed a somewhat complex post.   Having submitted it, I see a typo that I would like to fix.   But it won't let me edit.  There is no edit button.

 

I have refreshed the screen, gone to another thread and come back.  But still, nothing.

 

I am running Windows 7 and IE 8.0.7600

 

Doesn't happen all the time but it has come up a few times in my short participation on this forum.

I've seen it stated that you have about 5 mins to make any changes, after which the "edit" link disappears.  I've also seen statements that you can edit a post until somebody replies.  It might be a combination of the two...

Yes there are limits on how long you have to edit a post (not sure exactly what it is). Ed PM sent.

Thanks guys.   Each forum is different, so I wanted to undersand how this one works.

 

While minor typos are not really a big deal, I might read a post I did an hour ago and see that I typed form instead of from.  It bothers me, so I go back and fix it.

More like 10 minutes, I guess.  And the "until somebody replies" seems to be a red herring! 

 

It's now, what, 8 or 9 minutes since my earlier reply.  I can see a reply after mine by Bruce, and I can also still see the "edit post" link on my earlier reply.

Well unless the tech guys have changed things without telling me, the system alwyas used to be that you could edit any post you made, without time limits, providing no-one had posted after you.

Incidentally Ed and all, I am quite happy to edit any posts you make for typos etc if you simply PM me with the details ( include a live link please to the thread concerned )

Thanks. Most are minor issues that can be left.

 

In this case, in the propeller discussion, I realized, too late, that I had gone way off topic and wanted to completely change the post before anyone responded.   That is what raised the issue.

Someone changed something as that does not seem to be the case anymore.  In the prop dicussion you posted after me, and in fact you quoted me.   Yet I was able to change "this" to the in the original.  Go back and compare the quote to the original and you will see i fixed the gramatical error.  I am no English teacher, but I do try.

hello all iv'e noticed since day one that after my thread/post has been alive for aprox 30 min's......that's it i cant edit it as the facility has gone from the bar of the post.......sometimes when i look back at a post i have made earlier in the day...and see a spelling mistook...i wood like to change it.........

I seem to recall them telling me it gives you 20 mins to edit after posting.

Confirmation just received 30 minutes after posting, then thats it. As stated of course moderators can alter any post indefinately, so just shout if there is a major need.

I'll add something in about it in forum useage guidelines
