Rod Levin
I read and have the included plan (in the RCM&E March 2010) of Peter Miller's C/L Super Trooper. Can anyone give me practical ideas to turn this into a three-channel Radio Controlled model, please ? TIps on engine size, position of C of G, other ? Many Thanks Rod Levin - London
Peter Miller
Ye Gods, even I wouldn't attempt to do that. Well, For a start, take it to your local print shop and get it enlarged to at least 48" span. That way you will have room to fit some radio gear. Then add about four degrees of dihedral to the lower wing and a couple to the top wing. For the CG, Drop a line down from two inches behind the leading edge of the top wing and mark a line up two inches from the leading edge of the bottom wing. divide the gap in half and that should be a safe CG Finally fit a .40 Surpass four stroke engine or an SC 32 two stroke. I am not Guarenteeing that it will work but it is what I would try. Why three channel? Four would be much better.
Peter Miller
Actually a .52 four stroke would be better for a four channel model
Rod Levin
Peter, Many Thanks for your reply - I see that my idea is quite an undertaking ! To me, you have created beautiful lines in the Super Trouper and would like to see it under R/C. If I get that far, I'll report back. Happy Landings ! Peter Miller
There will be if it flies OK. 45" span. .52 foru stroke, five square feet of wing area and only weighs five pounds, that is low wing loading. Here is a picture of the family
Rod Levin
Hi Peter, Congratulations - I think you have created another 'Beauty' with this R/C eliptical winged Bipe. Does it have a name yet ? Good luck with the flight trials, I will look out for the write-up and plan. Also, from the 'Family' pic, what is the name of the white monoplane (with red and blue star bursts) - please ? Many Thanks Edited By Timbo - Administrator on 30/04/2010 21:57:
Peter Miller
The biplane is called Melody. The whitre monoplane is Symphony and is avalable as a plan from Traplet Publications. I am particualrly pleased with the cowling on that model. styles on the Avro Shackleton cowls it hides an engine and Silencer in the cowl while not being a huge diamter. SC32 Rhapsody (Red and yellow high wing) is an AMI plan and always fools people, they think she is a vintage model until they see her doing every stuntb in the book.SC32
Peter Miller
Well, Melody has been flown and is very nice indeed. One point, no way can it be flown on rudder only, ailerons are essential.
Rod Levin
Hi Peter, Many Thanks for the pre-view / update. I see that Melody certainly 'sits right' in flight. Presently, I am being enthralled by your write-up and production of Harmony in the current RC&ME. Keep up these Grest Achievements !
