Garry Pollard
Hi My next model is to be an ARTF Spitfire wirh retracts. Min span 63 inch max 80 inch This must be electric. I would prefer to use 4s lipo as I have plenty of these. Anyone any ideas Thanks in advance Garry
Frank Skilbeck
I would think 80" is a bit much for a 4s, but this one at 57" might fit the bill
Garry Pollard
Thanks Frank Have saved that one as it looks good. If I have to go higher than 4s then so be it. I notice they are recomending 5s, but I dont want something that flies poorly due to being stingy on power. Are the retracts substancial do you know, I fly off hard surface ie tarmac runway GarryEdited By Garry Pollard on 06/08/2010 20:52:
Tim Mackey
I second Franks comments re 4s being too low.
Garry Pollard
As a ball park figure Tim , are you saying 60 inch span 5s 80 inch span 6s or thereabouts Garry
Stephen Grigg
I think BRC Hobbies do a good Spifire Gary, and a sound System
Reno Racer
My 68" BF109E will be flying on 6S lipo and a Turnigy C50-65 motor. I suspect that with a simliar size warbird airframe, even 5S will not be enough, without drawing huge Amps.
Frank Skilbeck
Maybe you could go up a size and rig it up as an 8s using two 4s batteries in series.
Garry Pollard
Thanks Frank Good thinking, I hadnt looked at it that way Garry
Tim Mackey
Bit tricky to be so general. I reckon most WW2 prop driven warbirds will be Ok on around 80 -100 watts per pound for sensible scale like performance - certainly in "normal" flight. In fact Danny and Chris and other leccy warbird experts reckon even less is OK, so assuming your 63 " spit ( lecy version ) weighs around 7lb, you need 700 watts or so. 700 / 17.5V ( a 5s pack ) = 40A which is perfectly reasonable. All this assumes of course that you select the right Kv motor and prop to suit . Garry Pollard
Thanks Tim Hoping you would shed a little light on the subject. As you say it does depend on motor and prop combo. May see what is on offer at the Nats as they are so close. Are you going by the way Garry
