Bob Cotsford Posted September 29, 2010 Share Posted September 29, 2010 Last night I felt the need to buy this pretty 49" twin on offer at the club AGM. It was fitted with two 480 size leccies, a 50A brushed esc, 4 orange microservos, all leads and extensions and had been flown on a 7 cell NiMh pack according to the seller. Well it's now getting a pair of 220 watt Keda 2826 1450kV outrunners with 30A escs all winging their way from GC. A 3S 2300 LiPo will provide the power. The plan that came with the model declared it was an 'American Nightmare', and showed a pair of .15 glows for power. So, Peter or anyone who's built/flown this model, does it live up to it's name? No, it wasn't really a nightmare but I can say that after the first flight I felt as if I had just climbed off the biggest roller coaster in the world. Also you really had to be very careful on one engine. I would have said that 480s would make it pretty docile., but then, I don't know anything about electric power. I once saw one on Ebay, the span had been stretched by a few inches and the model was powered by .25s. Now that made me crange. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Either way, the Keda 2826's are rated at 220W per piece, so I'm hoping to be able to prop for around 180W a side, that should be enough for a start without cooking anything. For a laugh I just put it on the scales after fitting the two brushless motors, and complete with a 3S 2250mAhr LiPo but less props and spinners it came out at 1.4Kg - call it 3 1/4 lbs, or 100W/lb. That should do the trick. It certainly felt lighter after shedding the 480 brushed motors and associated mounting gubbins. It's very nicely built, and in bright red film is more than a little DH 88 like. It's almost too nice to fly - but only almost! A pair of .25s?
