Ed Darter
Well its taken 2-3 years on and off.... a few other projects started and finished while this one ticked along in the background but I have finally flown my Spitfire. What a peach of a model this is to fly!! all it needed was a couple of clicks of down elevator to see straight nd level, but the conditions were a bit blowy so this may need refining once flown in better weather. Though not a build blog as such I thought I would post a few pictures and list the specs. More photos can be found in my gallery. Spec: Weight - 10lb RCV91CD with a JEN 90 degree knuckle joint on the exhaust Spektrum AR9000 & satellite RX fitted Go 'n glow fitted, home made with parts provided by Timbo (this works a treat!) 2 x Eneloop 4.8v packs. One for primary controls, 1 for U/C & flaps 1 x Puffin Hi Flo 4Ah NiMH for go n' glow mods made: cockpit floor dropped for better fitting of a scale pilot. basic cockpit scale details added such as instrument panel instrument panel has LED's for the satellite RX and go 'n glow Beefing up of bulkhead etc radio mast removable for transportation home made control horns used so as to not need to spoil top surfaces of control surfaces weathering throughout airframe, sealed in with a dusting of fighter aces satin laquer. pushrods to tail surfaces made from CF tubes with wire bound at both ends. Exhaust exits opened up to help airflow and minimise hacking of the cowl.

Ed Darter
thanks guys, very happy with it, but haven't had a chance to fly it since the maiden so really itching to get out there again! Timbo - that Go 'n Glow is brilliant. I will definately do another one if I can get all the bits and not having to attach a glow stick to start it is really nice! all controlled via a spare channel on the TX Planning to campaign it for the rest of the season and then maybe upgrade it a bit over the winter, remove all the covering and glass cloth it, few more scale details, better retracts etc. Not made my mind up yet though.... Roger in Dubai
Hi Ed Congrats on finally finishing and flying the Spitfire. As you say it is a really great plane to fly. Glad to see you went with the internal silencer as we had discussed a while ago. Great weathering job as well. Safe landings Roger
Ed Darter
Hi Roger, Yes - it took a while with other projects coming and going in the meantime! Was very windy when I flew it but the initial impression was very good indeed. Internal silencer worked a treat, hopefully will continue to do so on warmer days as well. If she goes well this season i'm tempted to strip the covering over the winter, fully sheet the wings and recover with more scale detail. Not decided yet and another project may well take my fancy in the meantime (really want a bigish Vulcan!)Ed
