StuartC
The Nose leg on my Max Thrust Tornado broke and Im unable to get a replacement so Im making one from 2mm Piano wire. What Im lacking is a control arm ( collet fixing type  small enough to fit the wire for the steerable nose leg. Can anyone point me to a place where they keep such things that small ? The smallest I have found so far is for 4mm nose legs.
Tim Mackey
Have you tried the importers? If you dont find one, should be possible to solder a brass arm to a suitablele sized collet and use that?Edited By Tim Mackey - Administrator on 26/07/2011 12:36:
StuartC
No response from the importers re spares. The soldering idea sounds good, but Im nether equipped nor able to carry that out. Bending the wire was about my technical limit of my abillities.
Frank Skilbeck
You could get a collet of the correct diameter and then replace the grub screw with a longer screw that you could use as the steering arm.
StuartC
Think I've found what Im looking for from the RC boat crowd. A Rudder steering arm.
Andy Pickford
Stu. Ive only just seen these max thrust tornados i was wondering how they fly mate?? I was thinking about getting one!! Andy
StuartC
In a word, awsome !. Its very quick even with the wings extended, so much so that I have yet to be brave enough to swing them back in flight. It gets off the groung with a fairly short fun on tar, but it has a fairly high landing speed ( or that might just be me not risking stalling it on finals ! ) I need more Battery packs for my one. Only have 2 for it at the moment and its just not enough. Not a brilliant video, but this was its second flight http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMZ1MhaaB6s
Andy Pickford
It looks pretty smart mate. I used to be a Tornado engineer in the RAF and markings of that model was the last F3 i worked on!! I think i will have to treat myself!!!! It does look a tad rapid on landing!!!!!
StuartC
It uses individual servos in the Wing so if you can find a way of cramming a bigger receiver in, you could split the plug and dian in some flaps. There is not a lot of room inside for the battery and receiver. Its an F3 paintjob on a GR fuselage, its got 2 gun ports on it.
Mike581
Just bought one of these, what batteries are you guys using in it? Cheers
StuartC
Largest I can fit in it is a 2200mHa, and then I had to use a micro receiver fitted to a space I cut in the bottom of the cockpit. I'll get the make of the batteries for you when I get home.
