Keith Simmons
Enjoy your Holiday, but please protect your eyes and face as there is plenty of grit, sand and small stones hitting you. Please try small planes first so you know what to expect when they do take off. You will get blown away if you don't hang on....
John Privett
I've seen the videos and have seen the airport in the distance from a cruise ship. It's quite an amazing location for an airport! I believe that ALL arrivals (regardless of wind direction) come in over the sea. In the past all departures used to go out over the sea too - so using the runway in opposite directions for departure and arrivals. I was there (we stopped at the island for a day) about 5 years ago and we saw one aircraft suddenly appear through a gap in the hills, apparently having departed in that direction from the airport. But that's not a departure you'd want to experience any sort of engine failure on! I've also read that in the past, whilst they had direct flights from Europe, they were unable to take off in the runway length available with full tanks for the return journey. So the return journey started with a short hop to another Caribbean island, then the long haul back to Europe after taking on more fuel. Enjoy the visit David. I wish we could have had a closer look! fly boy3
A little off topic, but similar happenings in the Greek island of Sciathos, where enough fuel is put on the plane to get to Thessilonici on the main land, then fuel up back to London.
