Ultymate
Tim I've been updating the club webpage over the last couple of days the old article has now gone but there's a slideshow I've posted of last years Aerotow

Ian Jones
Will there be towing for competent pilots that have never had a tow before?
Ultymate
There certainly will Ian, hope to see you there.
Ian Jones
Great, thanks Ultymate yes I expect to be there. Now then, let's see if I can find a competent pilot .

Ian Jones
Oh yes I want some of that - great photo too. What the best form of tow line release on the towed glider? Hook or mechanised latch?
David Gilder
I would say mechanised latch... Hooks are fine for bungee launch but not really for aerotowing... Also, for aerotowing, Ideally it should be a nose mounted release mechanism!! Dave
Ian Jones
Thanks Dave - just so I know. Since you are looking in any suggestions for a suitable glider for this event, erm without hurting my pocket too much.
Tim Mackey
A B52 ! Simple ( which is best in this case ) tow release is something like this If you have apeek over at the B52 blog, youll see how its fitted. A standard servo is all thats required. Most tugs will also have a release - in case of a problem with the gliders release.
Tim Mackey
Hobbyking are doing some great VFM towable scale gliders, also available in the UK is things like the cularis etc.
David Gilder
Tims already commented.. Ian, I have only ever been aerotowed in a real glider and that was years ago!! So I am a Model Tow Virgin also!!!
Ian Jones
Thanks Tim, Had a look at Hobbyking, a few caught my eye but some of the reviews seemed a bit iffy, particularly relating to delivery damage. Haven't ruled them out but some of the Ripmax offerings seem to fit the bill. Anyway, rather than hijack this thread I've continued my search over at the Joy of Slope Dave,Now you will have to come so that I'm not the only one. Ultymate
Here's another shot of our resident tug for the last seven or eight years, there are unconfirmed rumours there may be an even bigger one this year.
Ian Jones
Right, trimming flight needed today and apart from that my conversion of an ST DG1000 for aerotow is complete, details here So all being well I'll be looking for someone to give me my first tow. David Gilder
Does anyone know if this is limited to gliders requiring an aerotow or are motor floaters allowed?????
Ian Jones
Hmm dunno Dave, mine has a retractable fuselage motor which I hope not to use. I suppose you could take the blades off.
Ultymate
You'll be welcome with your "motor floater" David.

Ian Jones
I had a great first ever aerotow day. I made four flights with my DG1000 and only had to resort to raising the power pod twice - my first landing would have been short if hadn't given it a little push and the 2nd flight was finished before the strip was clear so I used the motor to go around. I was pleased to meet up with Tim, Dave & Richard again, Ultymate - where were you? I wanted to say hello! It was good to chat worth other pilots too and as is often the case, a good friendly bunch they were too. Thanks RDMFC for hosting this event and thanks to the tug pilots flying goodness knows how many sorties to satisfy our desires to keep flying. Oh and thanks to weather for only being a bit brisk and just a few light showers with some good spells of sunshine. I took a few photos and I'll have a quick look at them in a moment, hopefully there will some worth posting here. Ultymate
Ian I was there taking photographs for a couple of hours in the morning. I have a damaged ligament in my left foot at the moment so not keen to be on my feet all day. Here's a few pics just to prove it.
