ady
evening all , put this together , hope you like it Edited By ady on 24/02/2012 17:49:11 Edited By ady on 24/02/2012 17:49:31 Edited By Chris Bott - Moderator on 24/02/2012 19:02:
Chris Bott - Moderator
Very impressive Ady. Are you going to give us more details? Do those blades actually interleave? It looks like theres a shaft interconnecting the two heads? Edited By Chris Bott - Moderator on 24/02/2012 17:58:

ady
yep , its two t-rex 550s bolted together , using a 12s set-up , the back is fed by torque tube , the blades are 90 degrees apart , so should not hit unless i crash it . csm 720 gyros help keep it stable-ish and a helitronix mixer allows my to control both swashplates
Chris Bott - Moderator
OK thanks, looks like theres one motor, at the near end, but this drives both rotors? Big white gear, to shaft to the other big white gear??

ady
the front auto gear turns the rear auto gear , this is the big white gear at the back , that in turn , rotates the head
Chris Bott - Moderator
Thanks Ady. I'm not in to heli's at all, but something like this is somehow fascinating. Thanks for sharing.
Barryorbik
Excellent work Andy and its nice to see some inventiveness. I love the idea of using a torque tube to drive both rotor heads but what motor, ESC and battery pack are you using and what flight times are you getting? ady
hi , the motor is an align 600mx 510kv , hobbyking cont and two 6s 3000 turnigy packs , she`ll fly for 10 min and uses 1400ma outta the packs

Danny Fenton
great engineering skills Ady, well impressed, i wouldn't have a clue where to start with something like this. how do you work out where the c of g should be? how do you control yaw? I am not into helis but the engineering and aerodynamics involved is fascinating. well done. Cheers Danny
ady
hello there , thanks for your kind words , the c of g is slighlty forward of the centre , lots of quess work there , yaw is controlled by each swash tilting in the opposite direction , ady
Cyclicscooby
Fair play... I think you're playing down your technical expertise here... I'd be shouting alot louder if i'd done it... LOOK WHAT I MADE.... Be impressed, be VERY impressed... You may have heard of Martin Briggs, from Rotorsport, my heli master.. He made one out of two graupner mechs iirc... Very impressive stuff, not just a case of bolting two heli's together.. Dont you need to have the masts at an exact angle..?? Rear 90, front 2-3 degs forward or summut..?? I think Martin was/is going to use a Graupner Chinook Fuse.. I'm pretty sure he didn't have to make one to fit.. What are you going to do.. ?? Luv Chrisie.. xx
ady
hello there , the masts on the real one are at an angle , but i build my toys to fly , don`t actually do scale , but i will admit to this now being on hold cos i`ve built several tandems in the past , this one being the best , the other night i put together a k-max out of two rex pros i had laying about , will start a new thread on that one
