Pete B
Hoping this is an acceptable 'how-to' to the powers-that-be, instructions on how to stop animated gifs working on your browser are here. The ads continue to display but do not flash to everyone's intense irritation! For Firefox users, for that is what I am, here is how: 1. Open a new tab in the browser. 2. In the address bar, type: about:config and enter. 3. You'll get the 'Here be dragons......' warning. 4. Promise to be careful. 5. In the search box at the top, type animation 6. One line, headed image.animation_mode will appear 7. Double-click on this line and type the word none in the text box, then 'OK'. 8. Close the tab and refresh the forum page - they should have magically stopped flashing! Pete

Allan Bowker
Pressing escape works for most browsers too, but only for the page you are currently on.
Devon Flyer
Posted by Allan Bowker on 10/05/2012 18:13:43: Pressing escape works for most browsers too, but only for the page you are currently on. That's a lot easier and still allows them to be displayed on other pages, if you wish,
The Whistler
I apologise if this is not the correct thread, but I cannot read certain threads because the adverts cover the words. Is it possible to switch them off while I read them? This happens on the Nieuport 28 thread and the Magnatilla engine mounting thread. Thanks. Mark Powell 2
Just just saw this thread. You are indeed a star!!! (Im on MicroSoft IE) Strangely it does not work on their home page (they are cleverer than we thought) but it's fine everywhere else. Chris Bott - Moderator
TW which browser are you using? If it's Internet Explorer, try pressing the "compatibility view" button to see if it fixes your problem. Click once to switch it on, again to switch it off, to see what difference it makes. The Whistler
Thanks a lot Chris, that works a treat. Didn`t even think what that button was for DOH! If only I had looked at it I would have seen it was a broken page. Once again Thank you. The Whistler.
