NewBuilderFlyer
I'm building a Harlequin and am about to fit the engine - in my case it is a SC 0.32 two-stroke. I've bought a resin mount which has two arms that protrude about 2.5 inches from the front plywood former. The 0.32 is quite small and I'm wondering where to position it along the mount. I think it should go as close to the firewall as possible so that it's rigid - is that correct as I've not seen any mention of the optimum place to mount it? Alan Cantwell
isnt there a cowl on this model?
NewBuilderFlyer
Not a ready made one - there are instructions in the RCM&E article about mounting the engine and then making the cowl around it.
Philip Ogden
Normally, a distance from the firewall to the prop. driver face would be quoted. Assuming you have some flexibility, I would leave mounting the engine till last, then position the engine to achieve the correct balance without having to add more lead than necessary. Then simply build the cowl around that. Edited By Philip Ogden on 19/05/2012 21:55:
Alan Cantwell
take the measurement from the bulkhead to the spinner off the plan, and mount the engine to that, once the engine is on the bulkhead, it will become torsionally stiff, no probs
NewBuilderFlyer
ok - I've measured from the plan and that looks just right. Thanks for all your helpful replies - another bit of knowledge I can store away.

Steve Hargreaves - Moderator
Hi NBF.....if you are not restricted by a cowl then as close to the firewall as possible but as The Great Kendo points out leave enough room for the fuel tubes....
