Andy - protection for debit cards is obviously better now than it has been in the past (when you could be cleaned out and have no recourse to the bank) presumably due to the online purchasing phenomenon but you will still have to argue your case with your bank if there are unauthorised withdrawals and rely on their goodwill (!!) to get it sorted - I still would not think of putting my debit card details online I'm afraid.

Dylan: I've looked at the HK website. I think that when you buy from them, the transaction (money) goes through HobbyKing.com, regardless of which warehouse you take delivery from. So it's an overseas transaction. That's why I'm not surprised there's a percentage charge on your Debit card.

I wonder if this also means that such purchases are outside the scope of the Sales of Goods Act / Supply of Goods and Services Act and the Consumer Protection (Distance Selling) Regulations.

Really? this doesn't bnother anyone? if you went into your local LMS and made a purchase and handed over your card, would you not be a bit miffed if he said "thats another £10 please"

Compared to HK's prices, that's what they do anyway LOL.
