Tony Bennett
spent all christmas studying the plans and build instructions. so we will be starting this one in jan.
Bob Cotsford
that is one sleek plane for a 60s design. You will really need to work at keeping the tail light with such a short nose and just a leccy motor up front. Martyn K
Gorgeous looking beast. I dont the CG will be a problem. That is a *lot* of sweepback. I would guess that the effective CG is really quite a long way back. However, getting a battery pack to fit may be a challenge. Good luck with it Tony. Tony Bennett
cg is vertualy at the t/e of the wing. will have to make a removable canopy to fit the battery in the nose. esc under the motor in that nice air intake for the ic engine. going to be fun. might build 2 and have one for ic as well. Martyn K
Posted by Tony Bennett on 27/12/2012 22:30:56: might build 2 and have one for ic as well. That's the spirit!. Seriously though it would make a very interesting comparison if you did build 2. May settle the IC v Electric argument - at least for the Mark 8. Tony Bennett
need to lighten the tail i think,. its a built up tail and then sheeted with 1/16th. so i might sheet with 1/32nd to lower the weight a bit.
Tony Bennett
right i had a look at the plans this afternoon. roughly worked out where everything is going to go. Then i thought, well the plan is on the table. soooooooooo twas fairly simple to do, soooooooooooo i did another. Both need sanding to shape next. i might make 2 fins tomorrow, maybe. Martyn K
Hi Tony, Looking very nice... I guess that they will be completed sometime next week then Good luck, I'll watch with interest.. Martyn
Tony Bennett
naaaaaaa, be a couple of weeks i should think. i will get all the airframe done and then stall when it comes to fitting it out. lack of funds and the wrong temperment for fiddy jobs.
Martyn K
I agree, I can make good progress with the airframe and it will take me almost as long to get the radio installed and linkages done correctly, It is always a massive underestimation of effort required Martyn
Tony Bennett
airframe is the easy bit. running all them wires and rods all over the place scares the hell out of me. just cant do it.
Bob Cotsford
No, it's the covering that brings my projects to a grinding halt. I've forced myself to start the film bits on the Blue Angel but I'm making hard work of it. I can never decide on a colour scheme, it ends up as a natural evolution. Tony Bennett
Thats both find made. next job rudders and elevators. then i can sit down and cut dozens of wing ribs.
Bob Cotsford
the ribs look to be a good case for mass production using the sandwich method, especially with two wings worth to do.
Tony Bennett
i will cut them all indavidualy, as i can get the most out of each sheet of balsa by jiggling them about. i dont have the money anymore to waste wood.
Bob Cotsford
that's something to do sat in front of the telly with a non-demanding program on then, it's one of my least favourite jobs. Or maybe queue up some CDs to taste.
Tony Bennett
i enjoy cutting out all the bits. yes i am insane. i enjoy sticking them alltogether as well.
Tony Bennett
got up and started cutting 28 wing ribs. then cut the leading and trailing edges and glued the first wing pannel together. started the second pannel now. hopefully get the second side finished and both of them joined together tomorrow, then we can look at the fuselage. Bob Cotsford
at this rate you should have one airborne by Sunday afternoon!
Tony Bennett
not a chance. hopefully start the fuselage over the weekend. i am aiming for next weekend finish. Won't get to fly is as i have just sold it. will have to wait until the second one is built before i can go fly one. Or i can start the lancer. Tony Bennett
wing is sheeted. need to shape the leading and trailing edges next, then wing tips and ailerons. so i decided to start cutting out fuselage formers.
