CARPERFECT
Bit of advice required. Iam going to fit some LED lights to my WOT4 for a bit of fun. I will not be using the RX battery to power them, i want to use a separate battery. These lights are to be switchable from the TX. How do i wire them up ? CARPERFECT
Okay no replies after 3 hrs. So if if i ask it this way ? Lets say i have a WOT 4 leccy and i would like to power the motor and servos from separate batteries .How would i do it ?
Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Connect your ESC to the Rx in the normal way but without the red lead being present - the best way to do this is via a short extension lead in the Rx with the +ve lead cut back, then the ESC connected to that. Then simply connect your Rx battery to any connector on the Rx. Servos and Rx will be powered off the battery, motor will be off the main Lipo as usual. WolstonFlyer
You would use an external BEC to power the RX (and therefore servos) from one battery, then power the ESC and motor from the flight pack. The throttle servo cable to the ESC would need the middle +ve wire removing from the plug and taping up / cutting so that the ESC does not also try to power the RX at the same time as the BEC.As far as powering LED's I think you can get a control board for lighting that will switch LED's using a channel from the RX but with a connector for a seperate battery.Perhaps have a look at HobbyKing for lighting systems.Hope that helps Edit- Using a BEC assumes you are using a second 2 cell LiPO as a receiver pack as the voltage will need to be reduced.Edited By WolstonFlyer on 29/12/2012 21:33:31Edited By WolstonFlyer on 29/12/2012 21:34:
Peter Beeney
CARPERFECT, - To describe it in full, are the lights the right voltage for the battery, for starters? If so, then you just need to break into one leg, connect one side to one connection of a micro switch, the other side to the other contact, and then arrange for the switch to be operated by a small servo. The servo arm operating the micro switch lever. There are probably 3 connections on the micro switch, from Maplins, here, try connecting them first to get it right. Presumably you only want to switch them on and off? This is one way of doing it, and is this enough info? PB
WolstonFlyer
HobbyKing have a couple of receiver controlled switches listed, one of them has 9 outputs that LED's could be wired to. **Link** Another thought-I guess you could also use a small cheap brushed motor esc to power the lights switched from the RX via the flaps or other full on/off switch from the TX.The brushed esc would allow you to connect a seperate battery and has the servo plug to go to the RX, just disconnect the Red wire so the RX is not powered by it. A resistor between the output from the esc to the LED's could be used to drop the voltage. **Link**Edited By WolstonFlyer on 29/12/2012 22:37:39Edited By WolstonFlyer on 29/12/2012 22:38:
cymaz
Go to braincube aero. They do some great lights. If you give him a ring he should be glad to help. I got some of his kit for my build. Very easy to set up and run.
CARPERFECT
Yes Wolstonflyer thats just what i was thinking of doing as i had the brushed ESC. The bit i was unsure about was the red wire from the esc to the rx.
