Cardboard Modelling

For the past couple of years I have designed and built a 'model' out of cardboard boxes to assist my wife, who runs a children's club to occupy the local kids during the Easter holidays. This obviously impinges upon my 'serious' modelling time, and I wondered if any more of you have been involved in similar creations? Please shows us some photos if so.

The 2013 project was a rocket, standing 3.2m high:

First, in its raw state before finishing. Boxes were from Traffic Light controllers, with a large garden planter for the nose cone, topped off with a kitchen roll tube:

Then the finished article. It dismantles into three sections for transport:

And finally, installed in the Church hall ready for the kids:

No maiden flight undertaken or planned as yet!

The 2014 project was a Pirate Ship. This has been the cause of the delay to my Jet Provost for the 2014 mass build.

This was designed and built in just under 2 weeks. It's 3.2m long with a 2.8m mast height (limited by the height of my conservatory 'ships loft' building yard).

The raw materials:

Constructed and awaiting paint:

Retractable bowsprit and plank to facilitate transport:

Fully modular, to fit into the car in 2 trips:

Installed in the hall with a rather sick looking Captain!

Fabulous sail sewn up by my wife (only right, since it her idea to use my time up!):

dsc_0269.jpg

A couple of 'Pringles' cannons to repel mischievous children!

dsc_0270.jpg

Haven't yet decided whether to risk launching it when the event is over.

John, Funny you should mention a monkey test pilot - the cuddly crittur currently testing the plank on the pirate ship is seeking a greater challenge, and I think 'Rocket Pilot' would satisfy him, at least for the brief duration of the flight!

FastFlyer, I did wonder whether BEB might consider using the ship as the superstructure for Mrs BEB's birthday boat. After all, it is made from cardboard as the plan recommends! It might need a little water shrinking to fit, though.

If it were waterproofed enough to float, I can't imagine what size servos would be needed for the sheet control and tiller (like BEB, I can pretend to talk nautical as well!).
