james parker 4
hi all, as explained in my intro i want my super cub at least to work. the main problem is the fact that i can't even connect the transmitter to the recciever (probably down to no power in any of the batteries, so i'll charge them up). i remember it used to connect (i think) but nothing would happen (i.e. no movement at all) i tried binding it at least twice but still, no movement. so i was hoping you guys could get 'er going, thanks, james. Martin Harris - Moderator
Very difficult to assist on that information. What radio/model are you using? Why not pop along to your nearest club with your model and have a chat - unless you're very unlucky most clubs will be very helpful to anyone interested in the hobby and you might even be tempted to return! Ian Skeldon 1
Hi James, Firstly welcome to the hobby/sport. I am guessing that your new to flying radio controlled models? Your question needs to have a lot more information before anyone can help you. Which make and model of radio is it, again which model of receiver are you using. Your right to say that the batteries need to be fully charged up, otherwise you will not get much movement from the servos (if any at all). So please re-post with details of battery status, any switch used in between battery and receiver, are you sure the polarity or fitting of various plugs is/are correct. Make and model of both transmitter and receiver, make and model of servos. Good luck, Ian
Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
James, Martin is right - I'm afraid we need a lot more information than that if we are to help you! So; 1. What radio gear is it - transmitter and receiver? 2. What power battery do you have in the model? 3. Are the batteries - in the model and the Tx charged? No point until we are sure of that! If the power battery in the model is a Lipo do you have a proper Lipo battery charger? Don't try to charge it with anything else!!! 4. You have done what Ken suggested haven't you? ie you have taken the prop off the motor shaft? Get back to us with the extra info and we can try to help. Martin Harris - Moderator
Ah - just found your other post which explains all while trying to fathom out BEB's reference to Ken. I'd take the offer from Wingman to go along to his club!
james parker 4
Well, I've got some more info. So, the transmitter for m using is called the spektrum DX4e 2.4GHz. I have no idea on the receiver, the only writing (which I can see) is just where to put the cables. If you want to I could pull it out and have a look. The battery in the plane is LiPo, 11.1V, 1300mAh, 14.4Wh. And the Tx runs on 4 AA batteries, I've just changed them but its not turning on..could be a loose wire perhaps, If you need any more info just call, James. james parker 4
Crossed post there martin, Yep, I'll take up that invite, as soon as exams are finished in may/June, James.
james parker 4
Just found out the receiver is a 2.4GHz DSM receiver/ESC, And the motor is a 480 brushed, James.
Shaunie
Hi James, Sounds to me that the bind process is unsuccessful. Does the receiver have an LED on it? It should flash when ready to bind, when binding is completed the LED should come on solid. Shaunie.
james parker 4
Thanks shaunie, Well, its successfully binded now, as the LED is solid red. The only problem is....the rudder and elevators don't work, my initial thought is the cables are connected wrong or the servos are burnt out, James. Shaunie
Hi James, Sure you have the rudder and elevator servo plugs in the correct way round (polarity). Ideally you need a known good servo of some sort to cross check. Does the motor run? Shaunie.
james parker 4
Hi Shaunie, Yep, the motor is running fine. It seems it is the connection, I have the rudder working now, just the elevators now. But they are more of a pest compared to the rudder (which as you said was just an incorrect polarity case). I'll start again tomorrow though, Thanks, James.
Shaunie
Nearly there then James. Carefully check the elevator servo cable and connector and make sure the polarity matches the rudder servo. I take it this is a brand new model, I can't remember whether you have mentioned that? Shaunie.
Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
I understand that James got this model for Christmas but has not had much success with it yet! More details on James's background can be found here BEB
james parker 4
Yep, BEB's right, brand new. But just some seems to be wrong. As you say, almost there I fired up the motor to full throttle and it nearly flew out my hand! A lot more powerful than what I expected! Thanks, James. Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Sorry to keep banging on about it james - but you have taken the prop off yes? Its really dangerous working on a live model with the prop attached - too many of us have the scars to prove that! We don't want you joining the list - it isn't a badge of honour! james parker 4
Yep, prop is off. After a lot of struggle with the spinner its off Depends on your view if you want that badge or not James.
