SMFC's Chris Foss Day 27th July 2014.

Recommended Posts

This afternoon, twelve members of the Shropshire Model Flying Club held an informal competition for members who own models designed by Chris Foss at Forton Aerodrome, near Montford Bridge, Shropshire.

The winner was Kev Williams, (pale blue singlet) who flew a kit-built Acrowot, the model with the dark red wings in the foreground.

In the picture below, SMFC members show off their models, including a few broken ones!

There were only three comps deliberately designed to be easy to cater for less skillful pilots however, there were still a few broken models at the end of the day!

The first event was a simple taxying task; taxi your model between two sticks. The winner was the one who drove through the narrowest gap compared with the wingspan of his model.

The second comp was a mass-launch-climb and glide. Engine run limited to 20 seconds. Last man down was the winner.

The final test involved climbing to height and removing your fingers from the sticks. At that moment a stopwatch was started. The winner was the pilot whose model flew for the longest period before the pilot touched the sticks again.

There was also a 'Wot do you know' question sheet:-

1. What was Chris Foss's occupation before he took up full-time aeromodelling?

2. Where is Chris Foss Designs located?

3. Name as many Chris Foss models you can (Ripmax stuff excluded)

The winner was Marvin Ryles - 2nd from the left who scored 11 - he needs to get out more!
