Alan Cardwell 1
hiya all, I have finally (after 68 years) got round after a long break from model flying to building as opposed to assembling a model. I am building a flair Attila and on researching engines I am leaning towards an sc30 4 stroke, has anyone any experience of this engine and what fuel is suitable cheers alan
Paul Marsh
Os 15 FP/LA for 2 stroke. the 30 fs will be ideal, might be over powered and heavy/big, though.
Peter Christy
Mine flew very nicely on an OS 20 4-stroke, so a 30 should be more than adequate. I used the 16% heli fuel I had (Bekra 16) and the engine ran fine on that. Like most heli fuels, its pure synthetic - no castor at all - so you don't get the varnish building up (helis and 4-strokes run hotter than normal 2-strokes in fixed-wing aircraft). Never had any issues with it. Use a large-ish diameter prop - I used a 10x5, though you'll probably need bigger with a 30 - as otherwise most of the prop disk is obscured by the fuselage. -- Pete
Levanter
OS FS 20s are wonderful little engines but they command high prices. You could try an OS FS 26 which is only 4 grams heavier at 271 g than the 20 but significantly lighter than a 30. The 26s usually sell much cheaper. Both are out of production but come up frequently on Ebay. Spares are readily available.
Alan Cardwell 1
Thanks Guys, I've settled on and bought an OS 15 LA, the build is well under way, l'm not quite sure about the exact position of F3 but will sort it (I hope) the plan is a little unclear, maybe some one out there can make it a bit clearer. Thanks to you chaps who replied about my engine query. Alan
