Dave Parrish
Hello all. Have come back to flying after 15 years. Its all change on the electric front. Have to say its quite a good thing as I was always getting people moan about the noise of my old I.C. motors. Have just bought an Art Tech Edge 540 T. Great fun but it does suffer aileron flutter when in high speed aerobatics and tight turns. Have noticed the aileron servo arm is loose and the pushrods look like they are made from stiff string (really thin metal rods). Anyway enough for now.. Keep em in the air..Kind regards Dave... Dave Parrish
Thankyou Shaun, Seems like there is quite a lot to this electric setup. What esc goes with what engine and then theres current drain and how many amps used etc etc. Then I get to all the different Lipo battery packs. Have 3 packs at the moment, all 11.1v 3cells but different Mah. 1300 and 2-1500. Have just bought a book so that may help. Catch you on the invert...Kind regards Dave... Jez Saunders
Hello, can anyone recommend a good book on electric flight,i realise that technology in this area is moving at some pace but there must be a suitable book covering the basics out there. Many thanks.

Jez Saunders
Eric, thanks for your reply yes your right,i've only just joined the forum and am beginning to see the benefits. Just read one of your articles, will be reading more and asking more questions no doubt. I will have to get a printer sorted , i like and enjoy the tec stuff but i don't absorb info readily so have too read over a few time even the it can take a while! i bought a gws e-starter last year but it has not flown yet!, i am in the middle of solar filming it for a little more strength and plan to fit a brushless motor i have obtained a few weeks ago, saving for a futaba 2.4 radio,i think that the way to go ?. Have many interests and work gets in the way ! but am getting there. Thanks again.
Tim Mackey
I have the GWS E starter, ( got it for wifey to play with ) and it is a great little model - I wouldnt bother covering it TBH - it only adds weight, and that is the enemy of Electric flight...more so than IC. Mine flys very well on a simple typhoon small outrunner and a 1200 m/a pack. Had many flights since its birth about 3 years ago and still flying /looking good.Yep...2.4Ghz is the future
Dave Parrish
Hi All, Just to let you all know my edge 540 crashed OOps. Moral of the story, dont fly a yellow aeroplane towards a bright yellow midday sun!!!!! You can,t see it....
Jez Saunders
Timbo, thanks for the advise,i here what your saying about weight and is duely noted.I had intended to cover whole of plane but will reevaluate this.I have friend who partly covered his E starter after a few crashes and it certainly helped to stiffen repairs but retains a little flexibility i was trying to go one better before the crash!! Planing to fit a tornado bluebell kv 1650, 14A,160watts ? any advise in this area would be appreciated as this is the bit i find hardest to understand even after reading all the articles! Thanks to you both for your help.
Tim Mackey
Well my AUW is only 15.5 oz and I fly it on a typhoon micro 5 1200 Kv - 79 Watts and 9A...which is 75W p lb - PLENTY for this bird.160 watts will rip the wings off Jez..... Use a slightly lower Kv motor and swing an 8 or 9 x 3.8 prop or so.
Jez Saunders
Timbo, done some more studying on what you advise and a bit more has sunk in ! like i said a steep learning curve but things falling in to place. Guess i will save this motor for the next project. Thanks again.

David Ashby - Moderator
Hi Mark, welcome to the forum, 'fraid I can't help you although I guess there must be some clubs that concentrate on or fly solely pylon - might be worth giving the BMFA a call to see if they know of any. David.
