Biggles' Elder Brother - Moderator
Very moving - the unique aerial footage brings out the scale in a way I've not seen before. BEB
Dave Hopkin
I visited about 15 years ago, left in tears and I wasn't the only one Deeply moving place, with an atmosphere that forces you to talk in a whisper. I know that sounds daft but its the effect it had on me

Ian101
I agree with you Dave. We went in 2002 and find it hard to describe the atmosphere to people who haven't been. We also visited some local cemetaries where there were many graves with 3 generations of the same family in, all of whom perished within a very short space of time. Very moving. The vast expanse of Birkenau with its chimneys sticking out of the ground as far as the eye can see is also something that is hard to describe to people. There was a family of foxes living in one of the destroyed gas chambers and the youngsters were quite happily playing in front of us!
