David Pearce 4
Hi I'm looking for some control rods for a lightweight aircraft. Like the common M3 ones available from Logic etc , but lighter. Threaded at one end. I've searched around but can't find any. Can anyone recommend a source please., thanks David Edited By David Pearce 4 on 14/03/2015 15:27:

Geoff S
Posted by Tbone on 14/03/2015 15:40:23: Hi David, Try a cycle repair shop for various sizes of wheel spoke. Steve Bike spokes are rolled threads and I'm not sure what the threads actually are, except that they fit spoke nipples. Standard rustless plain spokes are 14 gauge (2mm) but the thread isn't. I have 100s because I used to build a lot of wheels mostly for myself and my wife. They're OK for plastic end fittings of course but not for metal clevises. Steve Hargreaves - Moderator
How light is lightweight David......? Would a direct piano wire linkage with a "Vee" kink in the middle for adjustment do the job perhaps? Failing that might some M2 solder on threaded "ends" do the job? Or possibly some nipple links which clamp to thin piano wire....
Keith Berriman
I have used with good success m2 rod inserted into carbon fibre rod and drop of thin super glue and work into the hole in the rod. You have the choice of plain rod for Z bend or threaded rod
David Pearce 4
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I think standard M2 will be light enough for the ailerons but at the rear I need to go lighter. I have some suitable carbon rod so I'll try that idea first. Thanks again. Don Fry
Try a two mm inside diameter carbon fibre tube, with a piece of 2 mm threaded studding epoxied inside. Might need supports down its length depending on length and load on it.
