The Wright Stuff
Indeed, very impressive, and very reassuring that there is such an excess of power (it has to be able to take off on one engine). Sadly, the camera angle is a bit of an optical illusion - it doesn't actually go vertical, but gobsmacking performance nevertheless... Allan Bowker
Grace, beauty and performance. Lovely video.
cymaz
Wow...Gosh. Will they be doing those manoeuvres on every flight?

If they do the drinks trolleys are going to get down the gangways a LOT quicker than sleazyjets manage!

Bill_B
Trouble is, the opposition won the engine order. Boo to GE!

It is an interesting camera angle but I don't think it's an illusion. For just a few seconds I think it's within degrees of vertical, there is plenty of internet footage of the manouver from other angles to confirm this. Many airliners can perform to extremes without passengers and with only minimum fuel. Edited By avtur on 15/06/2015 15:50:

I guess it depends on how 'near' vertical it has to be to be termed 'near-vertical'. Look here! There are comments for and against, but Boeing declined to comment on the real angle, according to the CNN report.
