MartinBell
Jon, I'll no doubt get lots of pics and maybe a vid once it's in the air. Not sure about doing a vid on the maiden though Last lot of pics to bring us more or less up to date with where I actually am in the build:

Jon Laughton
I like it a lot but to be heretical I'm wondering if it could be increased in size and an IC engine installed (my preference!)
Reno Racer
Very pretty, I love it. I hope it flys as good as it looks, then maybe a cnc pack and possible RCME plan
Jack Banner
Looks lovely, I am keen to see those wings in action. They look great bu the narrow tips could be interesting
john stones 1 - Moderator
Yes same here looks very attractive and looks like it'll be great flyer John
MartinBell
Thanks chaps. Jack, yup you're right. It'll either fly lovely or tip-stall like an absolute b*****d
MartinBell
Jon, I'm sure some kind of ic conversion is possible, why not. This latest design is pretty similar to a 50cc petrol sized one I did a few years back. Edited By MartinBell on 13/07/2015 18:58:
Jon Laughton
That IC model is also fabulous Martin....drooling!
MartinBell
Simple way to hold the cowl on - fuselage mounted magnet and a bolt in the cowl. I'll do the same at the bottom of the cowl too. Magnet to magnet would be a lot stronger but I think this will be enough. It can't rotate because of the way it slips over the engine box and anyway, it can't fall off because of the spinner. The advantage of the bolt is that you can screw it in/out to get it in the right position. Bob Cotsford
What a fantastic piece of engineering Martin. I take it all the fuselage sheet is 1/6" with just a film covering? I hardly dare ask what the AUW came out at, I'm used to structures sized for IC!
Jim Mchugh
Bob, here here! A fantastic piece of engineering, Martin! From an original idea, to an original design, to CAD, to parts, to build... One day I *might* be able to do something similar.... I would happily buy the CNC woodpack, or better still use your drawings to laser cut the parts myself (if I ever get my CNC miller / laser cutter running) and build one of these. It has GOT to be a candidate for an RCM&E free plan, but failing that a CNC former and wing rib pack would do me.... Love it! MartinBell
Thanks for all of the positive comments. Quite pleased with the way it's going at the moment. Regarding publication of a plan, it's a distinct possibility but I would like to see how it performs first. No point having a nice looking model that is a dog to fly! Jon Laughton
Martin - is there a plan for the earlier ic version? Jon Edited By Jon Laughton on 19/07/2015 10:24:
MartinBell
Jon, I'm afraid I don't have a plan for that one. It was just a one-off build. I don't even have the cad files any more as I lost them when my last computer went kaput!

Graham Wood 3
It's a lovely model and thank you very much for the build thread. I was wondering how you were planning to keep the motor cool. I couldn't see any opening in the cowling or is that something to be cut out later.
MartinBell
Thanks Graham. You're right, I haven't yet cut the cooling holes but I will at some point. Just need to decide their shape and size.
Jim Mchugh
Martin, Do you still have the computer / hard disk that had the CAD files on it? I won't mind running some of my recovery tools against it, and see if we could get the design files back...
MartinBell
That's a very kind offer, thank you. I did try some recovery tools myself but to no avail. To be perfectly honest I'd be very reluctant to share that design anyway. There were quite a few things that, in hindsight, were not particularly well thought through. I only designed it far enough that I could then bodge it/make it up as I went along during the build. There are no plans for it at all. It ended up fairly nose heavy and the wing area was probably a little too large (bit too floaty and didn't snap particularly well). Who knows, maybe I'll revisit it one day and fix all of the above!
MartinBell
Well, it's almost ready for the first flight! And no, that isn't the prop I'm going to use!
Martyn K
That looks really nice. I like the way that you have faired in the undercarriage as well. Very nicely done What is the AUW? Martyn
MartinBell
Haven't got round to weighing it just yet but it didn't feel too bad when I assembled it for the photo (with lipo onboard too). Hopefully it'll be ok! U/c fairing is actually a bit untidy at the moment but I'll fix it after the first flight. The picture flatters it! MartinBell
Quick update: It flies! It's got some potential but as feared, the wings will need a rethink. It's a little too willing to drop a wing in its current guise. Not to worry though, I'll design a set of more conservatively proportioned wings in the near future...
