Kevin Birch
Evening all I have a little experience (a few years ago) building gliders and have lost touch with good deals etc. Can anyone recommend a good flyer that I can build (balsa) - maybe a 2ch as I'm a novice flyer Thanks Kevin
Shaun Brogdon
I could recommend the Chris Foss Middle Phase, with the plain wing. They're not too expensive, they fly well, and are tough as old boots. Someone might be able to recommend something a bit cheaper though?Just my two pence worth, Shaun
Ken Latam
Not sure if local shops carry it but the House of Balsa 2X4 kit is good as is or build without the poly style wing and add ailerons in place of the rudder. I loved mine till a Golden Eagle had it as an inflight meal.Ken
Rick Tee
I would also recommend the Middle Phase but build the advanced version, ailerons are easier to fly with.
Peewhit
Hi Kevin,I learned to fly properly on a Middlephase.Great glider - very stable, quite areobatic, traditional balsa build and tough! The trainer version is rudder/elevator and the advaned version has ailerons.Having started initially with a rudder/elevator model, I found the aileron Middlephase Advanced actually easier to fly, particularly for landings.Download Slope Soaring Simulator (free) and learn to fly with a joystick - nothing breaks when you crash! Go into the config screen and change the glider from the default Phase 6 to Glider Aileron, and then progress to Glider Fast and finally Phase 6 or any of the others. In hindsight (a marvelous thing) I would have started with an aileron model.Good luck and come back to me if you need any more info regarding build etc.Peter.
