Andrew Davies 3
Hi all, I'm completely new to model building and have just started to build a Seagull Boomerang - so far so good. Despite the poor instructions, I've managed to join the wings, and install the aileron servo. How do I attach the pushrod wires to the servo? I can see in the instructions how to attach the wires at the aileron end, but the parts in the kit don't obviously attach at the servo end. Help!! simon barr
Just had a look at the manual on line, and I agree, they're not very clear. You need to mark the rod as shown in the photo where it meets the servo arm, then carefully bend the rods 90 degrees at that point. Then slip the rod through the servo arm and use the swing keepers to hold them in place. You can then snip of the excess wire. Hope this helps. Andrew Davies 3
That's absolutely brilliant, many thanks. The picture in the manual isn't hugely clear, but I did wonder whether that was the idea. Presumably, I also need to open the hole on the servo arm to allow the rod to fit through? Thanks again, doubtless this won't be my first question....
kc
Swing keepers are essential for that method. Or make Z bends. Z bend pliers are about 4 pounds from Hobby King. Only increase th hole size if essential. Avoid slop. Use a tiny drill bit of the exact size. Edited By kc on 12/03/2016 17:31:
Craig Carr
If you do need to open the hole use an off cut off the pushrod in your drill to open it up to the exact size
Andrew Davies 3
Thanks guys, I've managed to work it through and now have the servo and control rods all fitted!! Now onto installing the undercarriage which the instructions for are equally unclear - why trim the covering in two places when the undercarriage only fixes in one?? Caveman
Andrew, I've just had a look at the Boomerang manual, and I also agree it leaves a lot to be desired! However, to answer your query regarding removing covering to install the undercarriage, it would appear that the model can be made with either, tricycle gear - nose wheel and two main wheels, or taildragger - rear wheel and two main wheels. For the tricycle setup you would need to use the rearmost position for the main wheels, and for the taildragger option the foremost position for the main wheels. So only remove the covering in the relevant position. Why they don't explain this is targetted at beginners afterall, I don't know, but it's typical of these kits GDB
kc
There are many items here on the forum about the Boomerang - may help you.

Andrew Davies 3
Thanks again guys, I suspect that there will be plenty more questions given the lack of a decent set of instructions. I'll have a look through the Boomerang section too. Undercarriage tomorrow. Cheers

Andrew Davies 3
I haven't started the undercarriage, but given your advice, I think I'll set it up as a tail dragger. It will take off and land on grass, and so your advice is really helpful. Cheers
