Tim Mackey
Spitfire Ace - Grace - and I have sat in a 2 seater owned by Anthony Evans - it is kept in a hangar, along with various other craft a few miles from my house. He regularly flys it over our back garden
winchweight
Caroline Grace and her Spitfire ML407, originally restored by her husband, he was killed in a car accident. She decided that the greatest testimony to her husband's work was if she continued the resoration and learned to fly it herself.http://www.ml407.co.uk/
winchweight
And no, she's not related to Ray Hanna...You know where I got this info, don't you?
Danny Fenton
The original programme I think Eric is referring to was "Perfect Lady" which showed the restoration of the Spit by Nick Grace and "piece of cake" where the spit was the star.Carolyn Graces story was told in the documentary "going solo"If the story of the Grace Spitfire doesn't make you pause for thought then there is no hope..........I believe you can buy rides in the spit as well as book it for events. http://www.ml407.co.uk/pages/main.html

Jim Newman
Ah! A liquid cooling system. The weak link in most combat aircraft. Unless one was clobbered in the oil cooler, most radial engine types made it home...even with a "jug" blown off. There are quite a few tales about damaged Wrights, P & Ws and Hercules still running with major bits missing....but once that glycol radiator was holed, it was "chips" for someone with a Merlin or Allison!Per ardua, and all that.Jim
