Josip Vrandecic -Mes
Hi Dom .....OK..... not too expensive....If I buy it, will neutralize an AS3X system ,and to fly with futaba set up, do not like a help by electronics.... too much..Cheers dear Dom. Dom (Essential RC)
No problems Jos. We'll be looking at the new H-King Voltigeur as well in next 2 weeks. Very similar size. Will be interesting comparison. Next vid. Something different. This is my good friend Andy from my local club with a 'TRIXIE' built from an Adrian Britton plan, by is Father, many years ago from a plan. It has a lot of sentimental value so Andy restored it recently and installed modern receiver, servos and electric power to replace the original diesel engine. Genuine pleasure to film him flying it again for the first time. Edited By Dom (Essential RC) on 25/01/2017 12:46:

Dom (Essential RC)
And that's what it's all about Jos buddy. So good we got some sunshine and blue skies last weekend. A guy could go mad after a long week at his desk without that! Cheers Dom
Dom (Essential RC)
Andy brought out another restored model at the weekend. This one is a Vic Smeede "POPSIE". Apparently a very popular free flight model during the 1950s. Built by Andy's Father, so again has a lot of sentimental value, and converted to 3 channel radio control with electric motor, elevator and rudder. Dom (Essential RC)
I've flown a few FPV quads but not an FPV plane...so thought I would try out the Reptile S800 FPV wing. Came with everything except the receiver and flight battery. Relatively simple to put together. Flew it FPV for the first time today. Never had so much fun. Vid below of my flying experience... Dom (Essential RC)
Continuing the FPV theme I put the NEW RunCam2 FPV Docking station on my 1.5m EDF HSD SuperViper and gave a couple of my local club mates an FPV ride while I flew it. Great views from this little cam and the signal and picture quality to the FPV goggles were excellent. Vid later today...

Cliff 1959
Dom, I think giving mates a 'ride' is great fun, I can see the value in that but I'm not sure how easy it would be to fly the plane using the goggles at that speed, when I fly using my sim you don't get that peripheral vision that is all important (I would have thought) which makes it hard to judge distances etc. Great videos though and great results, keep up the good work I really enjoyed watching. Dom (Essential RC)
Thanks Cliff. It wouldn't be easy to fly it FPV that's for sure. Tunnel vision effectively. Horizontal head tracking would make it a little easier. Maybe putting the cam on the side of the vertical stabiliser would help. I think I could take off and fly without problem as currently setup but landing gently on the wheels would be the biggest problem. Judging the final turn, the descent, balancing the throttle with the nose up and the descent? Very difficult. I'll probably be daft enough to try it sometime in the near future just to say I tried...but need to do it somewhere with a lot of space obviously. My local jet club has exactly that so we'll see... Dom (Essential RC)
I was privileged to be asked to attend and film DroneSoc at Imperial University. Some great speakers during the evening. Starting with Dr. Mirko Kovac, winner of the prestigious 2016 'Drones for Good' Competition in Dubai, presenting his research on bio-inspired drones and the technology-push on this front. Cliff 1959
Hi Dom, great video and what a future for drones, quite amazing actually, we'll look back in a few short years at today's drones and think how basic they were!

Josip Vrandecic -Mes
Somehow we tend to accept indoor flying for granted, and we know that requires an equal access, effort and work .... so thanks alot. The first day of Spring is coming soon, so your next report I expect '' from the open ''

Dom (Essential RC)
With the terrible weather I've been focussing on anything but planes recently. Boats, cars and trains to name just a few...and it's been fun. But with Spring on the horizon (fingers crossed) I've got back into some new products that hit the shelves recently. First up, the NEW HobbyKing Voltigeur 3D EPO plane. Great fun even on a very very breezy day. Certainly tested out the speed and torque of the servos!
