My lad gave me a built DA Spitfire for my birthday last December. It had never flown and the engine never run. In fact, the build was never completed.

  • there was no throttle installed
  • canopy held on with long tacks
  • no flying surfaces glued or installed
  • the fin and stab were held in by a wood screw !
  • no pipe work for the tank.

All these issues are being addressed.

If it comes down in flight...it’s cost me nothing but a bit of epoxy and some piano wire. It would be a shame but I don’t hold out much hope. It will be as safe as it can be.

The engine had a soak of oil as it was brand new and a bit stiff. After a 30 minute bath was far looser. Installed on the test bed....3 flicks and it was off! A bit of carb adjustment and it has a good idle and installed throttling. Those who don’t know the history of the plane it’s has a Leo 40 2t
