Alve Hansson
Since I needed my ASP FS-52 for my next project, Seagul, DUAL ACE, I needed a new engine for My Wot 4 Mk3 and my choice became the NGH GT9 Pro that I bought from JE. I like the engine, it's easy to start and I've made 6 flights without any problems. But I have a problem with idling where the trottel is half open and the rpm is rather high but below 3000 and not stable. I am using Mobil 1 Racing 2T oil and Aspen 4. Mix 1:20. Speed with the APC 11X7 is 9000 rpm. Would you like to receive tips / advice on how to handle idle setting.
Denis Watkins
2 things, the carb is pushed in and tightened by set screw, and may not be up against the O ring So slacken this off and push down hard the carb into the throat, and retighten. Also Run the motor in, even on poor tuning, and try an 11x 6 prop to unload the motor The motor, and any motor is difficult to get down to idle when not run in Edited By Denis Watkins on 14/09/2017 20:02:
Alve Hansson
@Denis Thank you for your advice. I'll check the carb. Running in: I started with 10x6 to unload, then 11X6 and after that 12X6 which was too much. 11X7 seemed good but I will switch to 11X6. Hope for good weather for the weekend. Max50
Alve How loud is the engine on the quiet silencer exhaust.
Alve Hansson
I bought a Quiet Silencer JENQ57 but I have some problem with the C/G so I use a lighter silencer from an old ASP 53A2. I don´t think it is loud at all but maybe I don´t hear so well after all basstrombone playing (my hobby nr.1 ). Next time on the field I will use a app in my phone, Sound Meter, so I can tell the dB. /@lve
Max50
It's OK Alve. Just wondered wether it was the same as a 2 stroke glo with the quiet silencer on it, or wether it was noisier like normal standard 2 stroke petrols.
Alve Hansson
@Max50 Home again after 7 flights on the field. The engine is running well and the engine idle better afterwards. I measured the sound in a circle with two meters distance to the plane and App Sound Meter showed 83 dB. The engine is quite quiet, I think. The noice is like a regular 2 stroke glo with quiet silencer, or a little less.
Max50
Thanks Alve, that's good to know. I took my first foray into petrol with an ngh25, but for me it was too noisy on it's standard silencer and the manifold screw fixing distance was bigger than the DLE size; so the smaller ngh9 with a standard fit exhaust is good, and I do like the Wot4. Could be a nice winter hack.
Alve Hansson
Yesterday I benched the NGH GT9 Pro with OS plug G5 made for gas engines and it worked great. Without the ignition unit and battery for this, I save 240 grams in weight on the plane and some necessary space in addition.
Mark Bennett 4
Alve, I've got the same engine and model. I'm in the process of trying to put things together. Did you fly the model with the G5 plug? Did it dead stick? When you were using the CDI where did you install it in the model? What fuel tank did you use?
