Any 1/4-1/5 scale balsa electric kits recommended

Looking around at any electric 1/5 or even 1/4 scale balsa kits that is recommended for quality. Trouble with many manufactures is they show a good price until you read "shall we say" the small print on what is included. How has your experience been on some of the larger builds. I am looking more at these scales as i am not so good in small tight areas.

Depend what you mean by quarter scale. My quarter scale electrically powered Percival Mew Gull is relatively small at 72" ws but a quarter scale B52 would be a lot, lot bigger. The 1:5.5 scale Sopwith Pup I'm building has a 60" ws, will also be electically powered but it has a fairly bulky fuselage, particularly at the front so access is easy. A club mate has built a quarter scale DB Pup for electric power as well.

Just about anything can be electrically powered though it's more practical in models with an all up weight lower than (say) 4 or 5kg. My ARTF Wot4 (wood, not foam) had the option of glow or electric and isn't particularly difficult to access and is very well made IMO.

Hi Geoff, as you say, scale depends on the original plane size. But looking to keep it around the 80",ish inches /2 meters max & I was hoping to go by quality of the makers & then choose from what they might have available. At this stage i quite like the large wheel tail dragging bush style of plane, as many of this style have large interiors to play with, like many of the club's, cub's & Carbon Cub & was possibly looking to have easy battery changing access, but this i can build into it.

Thanks for the link, It looks like the piper is a good bet & its sods law its not in stock. I also noticed it was at a great price of £165.00, but couldn't see it anywhere else at this price. I think there might be some Internet trickery going on to attract buyers to the site.

Yes Christopher, I noticed that the Piper Cub is £70 cheaper than the very similar Auster. Perhaps if you emailed or phoned them the situation would become clearer.

DB is a smal scale kit manufacturer with a great reputation. I don't think they're the sort to get involved in internet trickery. I have 3 of their models (one in construction as I write) I would recommend any of their kits. However it would be fair to warn you that they are 'builder's kits' and need some thought to put together. They are not slide tab 'A' into slot 'A' and Lo! in minutes you have a model aeroplane. All of mine have been altered to suit me - mostly because I convert them to electric power - but not always.

I suspect kits become un available because of the cost considerations of making and storing large amounts of stock. Email Richard, who owns it now, about the availablity of whatever you're interested in and he'll let you know potential delivery times and cost. Prices go up - my Cirrus Moth kit was £135 2 years ago, they're £165 now IIRC but still worth it IMO.
