Martin McIntosh
MH, way off thread but that looks fabulous. I have also found that with the exhaust exit just inside the cowl the model stays clean. Anyone who doubts that light models fly much better should go on the Mick Reeves website and read his wisdom on the subject.
Nigel R
Posted by Don Fry on 04/02/2020 16:39:20: I have never seen the point in putting any additional weight on a model. And all an IC model needs is a slightly stiffer nose to damp the extra vibration down. And by the time it's all installed, I don't think there is any difference in weight. They all break when it hits the ground. The elusive trick is avoiding hitting it. Stop talking sense, man!
Martin McIntosh
Stiffer nose Don? My 96" Hurri. has 1kg cast into the spinner and all my Spits need a huge amount of lead up front due to the short noses.
Don Fry
Arrrrr Martin, your Hurri was 150 grams heavy on its backside. I've got one, a triplane, and I was so worried it was going to be nose heavy, I lightened the backend. Then I needed to put 90 grams of lead at the back. It's fit for purpose, but be careful handling it. 90 grams of wood would make life easier. Game of blood. it does look fabulous. Martin McIntosh
Not surprising Don. The plan stated 1/4x1/8 spruce stringers plus 1/8 sq. balsa on top of these for shaping. There are about 50 of them and I could not risk a `starved horse` when the Solartex went on. Couple those with a load of 1/4 birch ply formers and you have one very tail heavy model.
