4 Axis T/X setup

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experimented with this setup on their glider/s? Having just ordered a Wasabi I've downloaded the build instructions and the designer recommends playing with this setup so I researched the subject and found a good explanatory aticle on "slope aerobatics.com". I dont intend flying with this setup straight away with a new model but just thought I'd ask if any of you guys have gone down this route yet?

I have set this up on my Schizo Brian - I filed a small "V" in the the throttle quadrant, but as yet have not bothered with the spring centreing - I also have it switcheable through the flight mode switch, and as you say, throttle stick forward reflex for slight added speed, and back for camber to increase the lift. Flight mode switch position determines the amount applied, so on landing, I switch in pos1 on flight mode, and the flapperons go right down on throttle low, and right up as spoilers with throttle high. This means as I come in fast, I switch in the mode on the flight sw, push throttle high to dump lift ( but keeps speed up ) and then pull throttle back and I get high flaps to elp the flair.
All works great ( in theory ) but the dirty air still gets me sometimes as you saw yesterday

OK Tim thanks for that, the way I've read the article in SA (thanks for sorting the link by the way) some are using it during aerobatics hence the need for auto centreing so the pilots know its coming back to neutral flaperons. For starters I think I'll just set up with snap flaps and normal flaps. Plenty of time to think about it well a week or so anyway

Right - I'm keeping all the fun stuff to myself in future. You can all read about Zagi's and gentle lady's in that 'specialist' mag......

My collection of Zagi's coming soon from a skunkworks near you - below. (just to get you off your walletts and buying the decent mag.....The one with the hardworking slope columnist.....)

(1st one to correctly identify them wins a stroke of my Jart and a framed photo of the two Zagi fliers at the end!)

Zagi 1

Zagi 2

Zagi 3

Zagi 4

Zagi 5

Zagi 6

Zagi 7 & 8

Zagi 9, 10, 11, 12, 13 ,14, & 15

Typical Zagi fliers.......

Not sure the van is Jart-proof, or Higgins F20, Rodent R3 (R4?), Shredda Fermin or Raven proof either. That Raven is rather nice - lots of dosh?

Dunno what the others are - or even sure I am anywhere near on my guesses. The first two look like fun - kind of cartoon-style sleds!

If you have any planes spare Andy, I would be more than happy to relieve you of them . I'm sure you won't miss them.

Do I get to stroke your Jart?

You have 4.5 out of 15 so only get to glance at it with one eye, but to be fair the Raven does say Raven on the wing. (I have a prototype for secret Beta testing)
Review soon in the mag if we can collectively persuade the editor to feature more gliders!
He doesn't hang about much here - sends his brother to do his snooping for him......
(who BTW has a comletely untouched Alula kit.....)
Incidently - none of these models are any use for 4 axis flight!

Andy the threadjacker.....

Yeah but I'm sure I found a build thread for an EPP version - rather nice it was too.

Oh, and I'm sure there's a Barracuda in your pic somewhere.

Here's the EPP Slopestream - if you can bear to look at an EPP model, that is. Shouldn't I be washing my mouth out with Acetone?

Ah! Here's that thread:

Brians was a one off, scaled up and with the permission of the designer. I remember reading that thread back in 2004.
Mine was to be only the 7th made. It ended up being the 8th after the 7th went missing.....But that is another story. it remains the only one outside of America however they are more readily available now.
The Cuda is 'special' and you're beginning to struggle now you have used up the ones with the model names in the filenames....

Well I read your articles Andy and I was inspired and have been experimenting with the 4th axis. For this I built a Wasabi look-a-like from the free down load for the wings and my own fuz.

It definitely adds that extra to the flight envelop, and Ive still got to develop my landing skills.  In flight you can drop the flaps or raise the spolerons and stop the plane dead, change direction and have a great fun

Still learning every flight
