David Ashby - Moderator
That slightly nose down flying stance, is that so the model penitrates into wind?
Tim Mackey
Yes to some degree, but it has that look generally due to its shape - but indeed, the only way to keep her speed up ( and she dont like slowing too much ) is to keep penetrating the wind as you summise. My slightly nose down stance is for two reasons..... 1) In 60MPH + you need to lean nose down....or you get blown over backwards 2) The various stickie buns need close and careful inspection
ken anderson.
i've searched high and low for a stickie bun plan-can anybody tell me where the thing originally came from? ken anderson...................
Tim Mackey
ASDA do a nice line in Yum Yums PS be VERY careful if you google for "sticky buns" - ensure the content filter is on

001
I think I should point out that Lee did the majority of the (excellent) camera work. I filmed the launch and handed the camera over!).Seamless continuity.....................
iawnski
nice one timbo flys a treat, was that a landing or arrival lol
Tim Mackey
Yeh, not my best one that Ironically, the one before ( without the camera running of course ) was a greaser. Still you know what we slopers say...if its in one piece and you dont need the car to go and get it, its a good landing!
001
Strangest sight of the day was a person, not connected to the flying, climbing down the steep part of the Orme with two big suitcases. Very odd!
Alex Leigh
Looks like one of my better landings that Nice video, you do go a long way out over all that water!
Tim Mackey
Yes, its not for the faint hearted Alex Richard.....I think the guy with the suitcases was actually Kevin - when his missus found out that he was planning to "slope off" and join us - she packed his bags for him
Matthew Lloyd
What sort of weight/wing loading have you got on that Hawk Tim?

Tim Mackey
Hi Matt - the Hawk weighs around 3lb+ and I calculate the loading at approx 23oz /sq' Lee.... good lad - you have saved my reputation - jsut need to splice it into the video now

Tim Mackey
Hey nice one mate.... not bad for a camera phone either. Moody blues..... crikey mate your far too young - nice track though - we knew how to make proper muic in the 60s ay?
Matthew Lloyd
Interesting Tim - I estimate my EPP Jart at around 28oz/sq' not that much more really.
Terence Lynock
28oz/sq.ft? how much!! I worry if anything I build exeeds 10oz, there again I suppose if the wind speed is high enough you could stick wings on a brick and it would fly, regards, Terry
Terence Lynock
Hi Tim, nice Hawk mate, really looks the part and my mate Steve Bishop would be interested, he and his dad (DB Sound commentary) fly a pair of turbine powered Hawks at air shows, regards, Terry
Tim Mackey
I have seen the 2 x red arrows hawks display at Weston - which I know is organized by Steve Bishop but I always understood that although Dave does the commentary ( as he has done atop his white van for more years than I care to remember ) they were not related. I do NOT think that DB flys the turbine hawk... takes him all his time to even recognize the models.... let alone fly em! PS I am in the " I like DB sound " half of the camp. He's British you know! Matthew Lloyd
Aah - DB Sound. The only commentary where you learn more about the pilot's family than you do the aircraft you're watching! I think the first time I heard Dave was in my early teens, and I'm now 40! They don't make them like they used to y'know.
Terence Lynock
Sorry Tim, family mix up - it may be Steve and his son Matt that fly the Hawks, I have to pop down and see Steve sometime soon to drop that T180 off to him for conversion into a toffee bomber. On the subject of gliding etc I have just aquired a well drawn plan for a large (for rubber powered) 58'' span FW 189, looks to be quite well thought out and had the idea of redesigning it a bit and turning it over to PSS, large wing area and not a lot of weight, what do you think?, regards, Terry
