David Shiell
Many years ago I was given a kit by ,I believe Veron, it was a 60 inch span glider the fusalage was built in the normal manner then canted 45 degrees with the wing pylon added. Can any one remember the name of this design & if possible tell me where I could get a copy of the plan as I should like to make a x2 version. We are going back 50 years. Ever hopefull Dave Shiell. Gary Binnie
Hi David, It's possible you are describing the 65" Mercury Marauder, there is a complete kit on US eBay at the moment (with pictures). The plan is available on a CD from Steve Webb (Servo shop) or possibly 'Replikit'.I had a Mercury Swan which flew away, it crash landed behind a surprised fisherman some miles off and he brought it back, don't forget to put your address on it!!! Cheers Gary
David Shiell
Hi Gary, Many thanks but I am sure it was a Veron kit, it could have been the Vortex.Further to your Swan I used to build my own designed 3ft span hand launched glider. we would throw it off a cliff over a valley with an auto rudder activated by a length of button thread,I must admit it was in Cyprus so the thermals where quite prolivic, one was returned my a Royal Navy minesweeper it had been found off the Turkish coast so I always put my name & address on my models. Many thanks for your letter. Dave.
Gary Binnie
If it is the Vortex that is available as well from the same sources. Big under fin at the back? Nordic A2 class? I am on the verge of ordering another Swan! Can vouch for the Cypriot thermals, have flown full size gliders out there recently.I have a Flair Sunrise 100S which rolled on the bungee after many years service (my fault, too windy) was going to throw it out but realised I can repair it quite easily (finding the time is not so easy though!)CheersGary
Evan Pimm 2
Veron Vortex was an R/C 2 chan. glider with glass fuse. Don't think it is the one you are looking for..Evan.
Gary Binnie
That rings a bell, sure I've got old Aeromodeller mags with picture adverts of the R/C Vortex but the picture shown on Steve Webb's site is a free flight job, also called the Vortex.Bit of a mystery.GB
David Shiell
Many thanks Gary & Evan the search continues--------! Dave.

Evan Pimm 2
Found the ad for the original Vortex, A2 F/F glider in a 1955 Aeromodeller. If Phil Smith had anything to do with it a quick note to him will soon have a plan winging (!) its way back to you. Evan.
Simon Chaddock
Hi only just come across this thread. The fuselage construction you describe certainly fits the MERCURY Marauder (I built one) and a very fine A2 class glider it was. Indeed I still have most of its original 1959 wing on a (now retired) 2 channel light weight slope soarer. I dont think the design of the wing structure would be really suitable to scale up x2!
