Adam Lomax
i am looking for a motor to put in my f3p shockflier but i am not shure which brand to go with are there any suggestions with a maximum spend of £20-£30 i was looking at the dualsky motors but alot of people at my club use hacker motors is there really and difference? does one give better proformance? thanks Adam Lomax
Tim Mackey
Yeh... Hacker cost more, but have a cool badge, bit like a merc or BMW.Loads of cheap mtors around these days which should be fine for your shockie. Have you looked at Giant Cod or BRC etc? Adam Lomax
yes timbo i was trying to avoid the cheaper brands, i have spent alot of money on the airframe and i am trying to keep it light if you see what i mean as i am going to compete with it
Tim Mackey
Well then I guess you have answered your own question to some extent Adam.Dont be fooled by the price of some of the gear - oddly enough you dont always "get what you pay for". Perhaps with the big stuff, yes - but on a small little thing like shockie motor, theres not alot to go wrong. I understand your comments - but for £30 you will have no prblem at all finding a small 50 watt high Kv motor. I guess sometghing around the 2000 Kv mark should be OK - have you looked at the Axi range ? Good quality and reputation. Shockies are not my thing really, so without knowing your total AUW and prop requirements etc, I am abit in the dark. I assume you will need loads of thrust and not much in the way of flat out speed? Prop size...maybe 8" ?? dunno... but how about this version? Best of luck with the comps...I am sure you will blow 'em away Edited By Timbo - Administrator on 08/11/2009 09:53:
Jonathan Lewzey
The Hacker A-10 15S is absolutely brilliant on my clik. Quiet, smooth, great throttling and as its a hacker its got the quality to last. Plus, it only weighs 15g and comes with a specialist indoor motor mount which will save you an extra 2-3g. For £21.99 at west london models its an absolute steal compared to other top quality indoor motors. Seth Arnold also recently used one in his osiris to win the F3P at ETOC 2009 btw, what f3p model have you got? ...and i used a pulso 11A ESC from www.pulso.co.uk which weighs 6g and only costs £13.84. Runs the hacker so smoothly and is dirt cheap! Pulso are a newish british company specialising in ESCs. This ESC was originally on the recommended sheet for AW design's Afriel (AW organise f3p UK) and they're right - it works perfectly with the A-10 15S. Jonathan Lewzey
grab a Thunder Power prolite v2 350 2s from W.L.M. aswell. They give excellent duration and are more powerful than my FP EVO20 300 packs. Have you got any of the other radio components? If you're on spektrum the AR6300 is a must. Robotbirds do some 3.8g waypoint servos with JST plugs which look good for it. I haven't actually tried these as i got a special offer on the indoor flight pack from alshobbies with the 6g spektrum digis. Robotbirds also do some 0.8mm gold connectors which are ideal for indoor models. The APC 7x4 slofly is perfect for the A-10.
Adam Lomax
ive decided to go for the dualsky motor now as ive just discoverd that it has a hollow shaft so i can use a variable pitch prop, should be interesting the kit arrived this morning and the quality is truly superb the airbrushing is amazing. i suppose it should be for £

Jonathan Lewzey
its not about how they look (although a snazzy paint scheme helps), its how they fly.

Jonathan Lewzey
I didn't realise they did them in good colour schemes . I was going to buy an afriel when their website changed and it only showed them in pink .
Foamie Dave
The 15s is a cracker, or for a bit more poke try the 9L , but as Timbo says lots of good cheap stuff out there as well. I' ve had my Hackers since they came out upteen seasons ago any theyre absolutely bullet proof so worth an extra few quid IMHO., but then again I tend to land on the nose a lot . GC, BRC and Robotbirds have some great " non designer" bargains if you shop around. On the battery front, another good one to try is the Rhino 2s360 at around £4 each . Mine are over a year old and as as good as the day I got them. Andy's Silent Angel and Afriel's are superb and without wanting to sound like DB , theyre British you know. Ill let him know about this post in case he wants to post some of his "top secret" news Edited By Foamie Dave on 11/11/2009 19:19:
Andy Whitehead
Hi Guys and thanks for the heads up Dave The Silent Angel that Adam has is one of only six produced. The Silent Angel was designed around the Axi 2203-52 for use in this years Electric Indoor Masters Competition Dec 5th and Dec 6th at Richard Dunn Sports Centre in Bradford. www.f3p-uk.org.uk/wp The model Adam has was custom airbrushed by Graham Roscoe of www.flykrill.co.uk The Angel is a competition spec F3P model spanning 900 mm and weighing in at 112g RTF with battery. The combination of the milled airframe and the Axi's ability to turn a 9" propellor enabled us to remove all the "spud mashers" ( air-brakes ) for a pure flying model with zero coupling or control surface interaction caused by the air brakes. We use and would endorse the following equipment for this setup Axi 2203-52 Flighttech / Turnigy Plush 6A esc 4 x Ripmax SD100 servo's (eliminates differential ,linkage geometry for pure axial rolls) Tornado 2s 250 F3P packs (gives around 7 minutes of flight) GWS 9x4.7 prop The all up weight of 122g can be achieved using all of the above equipment, unmodified and with a standard AR6110E receiver. Afriel's will be available again early December (this time as the Afriel Evo) fully screen printed in "Shocking Pink/ blue" or "Manly blue / green". No more Silent Angels will be available again until after they have proven their abilities in competition. Andy

Andy Whitehead
Take your time with the bracing as its all that holds the model togethor. I use 30 minute epoxy and just dip the rod ends into it, then twist them slightly when there in place. CA is too brittle for the bracing. Adam Lomax
well it flies, very well infact better than i expected. just takes a bit more height than my other shockflier as it has less elevator authority (not a big problem) just need to get more practice in now! Andy Whitehead
Hi Adam Glad your enjoying your model already. I'm not so certain that the model lacks elevator authority, Connor had been practicing the full "B" Schedule with his in a hall with a 5.5m ceiling and has no issues now he's relaxed about the competition. I think Its because the model has such a long momentarm for an indoor model (compared to a Clik) that it appears to have a lazy elevator response. Looking forward to meeting you and hope you do well and enjoy the competition. Andy
Adam Lomax
well, after 4 flights and a crash into the rafters i ended up in third position by 0.5 of a point!
Andy Whitehead
Hi Adam, you did yourself proud today. I saw two of your flights and your doing well. Connor who won the "B" schedule started in the C schedule lat year and was absolutely on fire today. Will be good too see your progress through the F3P ranks Keep up the good work Andy
