There is a device called a "How High" and another Called "How Fast" You can also buy a reader to go with them. They work very well. The How Fast can even take a series of reading which down loads to a tiny hand held reader, all via codes from an LED.

I forget who I bought them from now, somehwere up in Cumbria.

I am sure someone can rember who and put in a link to them Or they should come up on Google.

I had a model up at 2243 feet this afternoon.

  • 2 months later...
Hi I have a CASIO wristwatch that has an altimeter and thermometer built in, obviously small enough to be carried by just about any model.  It can be zeroed at any altitude and can record the max value reached in flight. My personal record with a 4m span Graupner Discus (a few years ago now) was 2850 feet above the Lincs Wolds.
Don't know if that watch is still available but I still have it after about 20 years and it still works fine. Maybe theres something similar today?

Cheers    Don

The GPS logger mentioned in the previous post may not actually measure altitude. I have a similar route-tracking device by Garmin, which assumes that you have 'your feet on the ground' so assumes OS map altitudes. Best to ask the question before committing to buy.

If you do find out, let us all know!
