Ross Clarkson
Hi all, I have a nice new DX7 waiting for me on Xmas day, but i was just wondering. Will my USB cable for my old DX5 fit the DX7 for Pheonix sim? It comes with Tx, Tx battery, receiver. What battery does the Tx have in it? Will my Imax B6 charger be appropriate to charge it? Thanks,
Tim Mackey
Yes...all Spektrum and Jr sets which feature a trainer / DSC Jack share a common port - which is in fact just a simple mono jack plug socket. The DX7 uses a "standard" 8 cell brick style battery Yes. Tim Mackey
Remember that when making any patch leads, JR and Spektrum use centre pin negative.
Stephen Grigg
The Dx7SE does not have trainer facility
Tim Mackey
Thats true I believe - and very odd .
Phil Brooks
Interesting. My Dx6 trainer socket will not accept the USB cable I used on my JR Max66. I had just assumed it was the norm, and that they used different sockets, but I'll have to investigate further.

Tim Mackey
Sorry.... a generalistaion for any short connecting lead from one item to another...such as in this case, the output leads from your charger to your Tx battery charge port. James40
I also ordered a DX7 tonight, now I'm aware of the negative centre pin on the TX but I take it the RX will operate off a normal RX battery that was connected to my Futaba or has Spektrum come up with their own version ? NigelH
Batteries plug in as normal but I'd not use four cell packs for Spektrum RXs.
James40
Ah ok, what do you recommend Nigel ? I've currently got the Energy Pro NiMH 4 cell 3300mAh 4.8v
NigelH
The problem relates to the pack voltage dropping due to in-flight load from the servos. If the RX doesn't get enough voltage then it will not operate. That's quite a high capacity pack so maybe the voltage drop wouldn't be too bad bit you can't easily measure it in flight anyway. I don't know about which packs are best but I'd not be comfortable with 4.8v packs. Someone else is sure to comment though.
Tim Mackey
On all but high loaded models, they are fine on 4 cell packs of that quality and capacity.Just be sure you have the latest QC firmware in which case you wont even know if you have a brown out apart from the light show
Ross Clarkson
James, I have an Overlander Sanyo Eneloop 6.0v 5s 2000mah Nimh battery for mine, on Timbo's advice i think.I got a charger with various leads off ebay for about £7 for the Tx and i use an Imax charger for everything else. James40
Mine arrived, let me rephrase that, I drove a 40 mile round trip (because Parcel Farce daren't drive in the snow) and collected mine this afternoon. It's exactly the same as yours Ross with a picture of a Smellycopter on the front, I called the shop I bought it from as I specified I wanted the aircraft version when I bought it but they said "They are the only ones we get from Horizon" So I called Horizon and spoke to a Spekrum guy....Yup, Horizon only import the Heli version of the DX7 from the US ?? How rediculous Come on Horizon, we don't all fly helicopter so why would we all want a helicopter handset.
