i12fly
Can anyone recommend something for wind....no I don't want a kite and I haven't got flatulence, but would like say a 15 or 25 size ARTF sporty aerobat or a similar electric that I can throw in the air and fly it in 25mph wind and bring it home in 1 piece. David Ashby - Moderator
You'd be better with a .40 sized model - a WOT4 is robust and can handle strong winds, it'll withstand the inevitable possibility of a bumpy landing too. I've seen Fun Fighters handle strong winds if you particularly want to stay with the smaller engine size though. David.
Phil Meredith
i always keep my old ripmax trainer on standby for when the windsock is verticle, great fun in the strongest of wind, hovered mine like a kite for five minute once, it was only when i throttled up i found she was dead stick,, thought she was going to be up there all day
scott cuppello
I think it's a 0.40 size minimum, and low wing. At our airfield it's always windy....took me ages to work out why virtually everybody has 70" + aircraft!
i12fly
Thanks guys for the advice, much appreciated. I'm a bit surprised though, I thought I'd be advised to get some sort of "indestructable" foamie thingy. Although the site is quite high at 900+ft, there isn't a slope anywhere, so no PSS. We've got trees either side the patch which mean that take off & landings are pretty well north or south. So lots of practice for cross wind approaches, and good spectator sport when it's windy.... which is why I was thinking of something just to throw up and away. i12fly
Gosh David (Ashby), are you allowed to go home? I've seen postings from you at 6 in the morning, throughout the day and at 10 at night, has a beastly brother shackled you to a desk? Do you need a rescue? DAVE CRUICKSHANK
Try a Flar Kite. Great in quite strong winds and biult to take those learners knocks.
David Ashby - Moderator
LOL :-) No I tend to be an early riser, especially in summer when I have a fly in the park behind my house (at the moment it's an Ultrafly PC-9...a nice little aerobat) around 6'ish when the wind hasn't got up. Then I tend to check the forum posts just before bed.....work and play tend to merge in this line. David
