  1. I opened my newly delivered RCM&E just now and was very shocked to read the news about Dave's passing. I felt compelled to log in to the forum immediately as he was such a big part of its fabric, not to mention the countless hours he has spent helping us all. It was always a pleasure to see him whenever our paths crossed at Greenacres and the Nats. God bless you Dave, we were lucky to have known you. Great job with the book Chris, it will bring some comfort to his family knowing that we appreciated his presence online, in print and in person. Class of 2014 (Greenacres)
  2. Red Bull Air Race or general aviation fans would probably know the names Nigel Huxtable (Left) and Nigel Lamb (Right), I know that they both fly RC (prop & jet) now and again from the airfields they work from.
  3. Couldn't agree more Geoff, I've purchased from Nexus a number of times online and at shows. Always received excellent service and fast delivery. Highly recommended from me.
  4. Having only just viewed the footage of the quad flying over Gatwick during daylight, a few things strike me: The X quad passes by at a relatively high and steady altitude with precise changes of direction. This would be tricky to achieve LOS, so I think this is a pre-programmed set of GPS waypoints. Having no video or TX link for authorities to trace makes finding the operator very difficult. It's not hard to build an 'endurance' multi-rotor that can fly for long sorties. This appears to be a new deliberate 'denial of service' type of attack on our infrastructure. The moron(s) don't appear to be stupid (but they are still morons!). 10pm news says that another fly-by has been witnessed during the last hour I do hope the perpetrator(s) are caught.
  5. Thanks for the update Darren, it's a shame I'm only on Apple. The website is still as useful as ever, thanks for your work in developing and hosting it.
  6. It's always Prawn Cocktail crisps on the buffet. I can't eat them, even when they are free. I guess some people have different preferences.
  7. Back in 2014 I built a plywood firewall box, which mounted the motor perfectly for the cowl, so no spacers needed. These days I would 3D print a mount, amazing how much the hobby progresses in such a short space of time!
  8. Not sure Jonryan, however it's a good sign that the website is still operating. Have you tried the phone number listed at the top of the website? It's a mobile number in the yellow coloured header/banner.
  9. OK Simon, let's see if I can help any further First of all, please can you tell me the manufacturer of your Cub? This will help me look up the specifications of your model.
  10. Thanks for the update Ian,, we installed a glass bed to our printer last week, also getting good results with that. Well worth a try (also requires 3DLAC or hairsray for the initial layer to stick).     Edited By Allan Bowker on 25/09/2016 11:57:40
  11. 3D printing has some development to go before replacing injection moulding.
  12. A quick Google didn't return any spares for the Malyan 180 (I checked HobbyKing & BangGood too). They look like standard DC brushless case fans, so should be easy to replace. I'm guessing 30mm? Looking on eBay you can get '30mm case fans' from £1 (or £3 for UK stock).
  13. Ian, when printing with ABS, try some of this on your bed, works well for me. David, generally speaking, most printers will print with any filament, however the manufacturers will only recommend you use their own branded material (this is where they make the profit!). The UP+2 is an enclosed printer and will do a good job with higher temperature filaments. Keeping the enclosure warm helps stop ABS shrinking, with PLA it doesn’t matter as it’s such a relatively low temperature material. Choosing a printer depends on what you’re going to print and at what resolution/quality of a print you expect. For example the Wanhao Duplicator i3 is an amazing starter printer for £289 delivered. The included heated bed and print quality you can get is amazing for such a cheap printer, where as something like the upbox is expensive but you get a nice enclosure and its quiet, which is great for ABS and Ninjaflex type filaments. While the Wanhao is a bit noisy and not enclosed it doesn’t mean it won’t print ABS or Ninjaflex, as I said at the start, generally any printer, any filament.
  14. No apology needed Josip, I added the link to try and keep us all together.
  15. Purchased mine from here: Technology Outlet Ready built, UK company, tech support provided and a 1 year warranty. Printer also features a heated bed as standard, I'm a very happy customer, arrived next day too! Download 3D models from Thigiverse or Easily design your own using free software like TinkerCAD I'm finding best results are produced from Cura at the moment when slicing your model into layer GCode.
  16.   I converted an old brushed HobbyZone SuperCub to brushless a while back, this is a video of me flying it around on a perfect Summers evening. I installed the mininum prop size as anything over a 8x4 prop is way too much power for such a light plane. Always use a watt meter to check you are within stated tollerences below! You may find that minus all the old brushed components you will need some lead on the inside of the cowling, so remember to check the CG. Motor: Model No: A22-15M / 1050kvm Weight: 67g Fit Prop 8x4 to 10×5 Current: 6A-16A (max 20A for 15 seconds) Max Watts: 200w Max Cells: 3s Lipo LINK for reference Motor also known as: KD / KDA / Keda / Dynam DYM22-15M Recommended props: 8x4 APC-E (3 cells: 11A, 125W, 650g, 39mph, 10300rpm) 9x4.5 APC-E (3 cells: 15A, 160W, 800g, 40mph, 9300rpm ) 9x6 APC-E (3 cells: 18A, 190W, 850g, 49mph, 8600rpm ) 10x5 APC-E (3 cells: 19A, 200W, 1000g, 40mph, 8400rpm ) Recommended Battery Capacity: 3S 2200mAh ESC: BRC Hobbies WASP 20amp ESC     Edited By Allan Bowker on 09/09/2016 22:56:11
