  1. Thanks very much for your input gentlemen. Josip, I don't quite understand the comparison you're making between the Monsun and the Dynam Spitfire. They seem to be quite different to me. I actually have the Dynam Spit. I asked about the Monsun because: a/. I can buy one at a good price. b/. I mostly fly sport aerobatic models. c/. looking for something similar but different at the same time if that makes sense?
  2. Anyone have any experience with this model? I've been looking for something a little different from the norm have been offered one of these N.I.B for about 100 quid. Info seems to be scarce, and so far one solitary comment I found mentioned tip stall issues. If this is the case, then I may give it a miss. But........if anyone can enlighten me otherwise I would be most grateful. Steve.
  3. I will be flying my newly finished Sebart Angel S30e if and when the weather ever improves. The worst start to the year for flying opportunities in the seven years that I've lived here.
  4. This thread continues to be most interesting and informative. And now, thanks to some of the more recent posts, I feel more confident that, at the age of 54 and 2/3, I may actually have enough time left to learn and improve my aerobatic flying skills. Thanks gentlemen. Steve.
  5. I've used Fast Lad many times and never had a single problem with them.......always great service. And, all of my orders have been made from Spain, via a Spanish bank and Credit card.
  6. Thanks for all this great info gentlemen. I've managed to fully program and re-setup my Acromaster and Sebart Shark today. So, by the end of the coming week I might just about have all my models ready to go.
  7. This is going to take far longer than I thought! If I manage to sort out two models today I'll be a happy bunny.
  8. I've had excellent service from Airtek too. And, despite the Spanish postal service doing it's worst, all my orders have arrived in good time and have been well packed. Steve.
  9. Thanks for the feedback guys. I had read some horror stories re the NiMh charging. I had a whole day free at home and charged for 12 hours with the battery cover off just in case. I would touch the pack every now and then to check for heat build up. I must say that I don't like this method of charging Tx batteries in situ though. Additionally, a second battery would be useful to have on hand at the field. Apparently, the HK lipo is a good buy from what I've read. Now, as it's raining once again, I need to start inputting all the details of 12 or so models.
  10. Ok chaps. My shiny new DX8 arrived earlier this week. Typically, my time has by necessity been devoted to other things. Still, The Tx is now registered and the "Sailplane" update completed without problems. Now, I've found some time to play; the NiMh pack has been "carefully" charged and memory slots have been assigned and named. So far so good. I now need to input all the individual model settings and I have one small question. Which is: If I input the settings with the exact same values as I have in my DX6i, would I be correct in assuming that, give or take a little tweak here and there, things will remain more or less the same on the model? Or, should I be prepared to tediously set up all my models from scratch once again? Thanks, Steve.
  11. Cuban 8 and Reverse Cuban 8 are probably my favourite to fly. I often combine a half reverse Cuban 8 with a half Cuban 8 for some variety and often use them as turnaround manouvres too. However, I do have to add that they're somewhat crudely executed by my hands on the sticks and never as precise as discussed in this great thread. However, I will continue in my attempts to improve when the weather permits some decent flying time. Moreover, I have my recently completed, but still to maiden, Sebart Angel S30 waiting in the wings. Steve.
  12. Many thanks for your replies gentlemen. I think I'll see how things go with the NiMh to start with and be careful with the charging.
  13. I ordered my DX8 today. Now the wait for the posty begins. A quick question. Is the lipo upgrade (15euros from HK) worthwhile, or am I good to go with the supplied NiMh ? Thanks
  14. I've just finished putting together my Angel S30e and wow does she look a beauty. The build went well and I've no real major complaints but I am a tad disappointed in the AUW of the model. I haven't used the recommended power setup as I had a motor/esc combo of similar spec and weight from a previous model. I was hoping to use 3s 2650mah lipos with the model but even at 250g I can't get anywhere near the recommended CG range. Hence, I've moved up to 3s 4000mah @ 350g. The model now weighs in at 1.6k which I'm sure is fine as I will only be flying pattern aerobatics. Still, out of interest I would welcome opinions from others that have, or have had the model; set-ups, weight, etc. Cheers, Steve.
  15. Thanks very much for that Martin. The model, an Acromaster, (my practice machine) is trimmed as best as I can get it for knife edge. Perhaps It's not the most suitable airframe but I know it well. However, perhaps I might be better flying my Calmato as it tracks so much better........more lipo's needed methinks. Makes much more sense to practice as you've suggested and I'll certainly be giving it a go next session. Steve.
  16. Beautiful day for flying here today. Chilly first thing but soon became very pleasant. Almost zero breeze and some lovely sunshine too. Looking forward to many more. Steve.
  17. I can foresee a very long learning/training curve ahead of me. I can do most of the basic aerobatic moves; not particularly stylishly by any means but, I do my best. However, when I read of the minute corrections necessary to execute a manouvre precisely I realize that I'm light years away from becoming even semi competent. Today, I decided to try some four point rolls for the first time. It's one thing to visualise the various stick inputs beforehand, but out in the real world I found my aging mind going blank at times. Never have four point rolls looked so comical as my attempts today! Steve.
  18. Posted by Peter Jenkins on 03/01/2014 13:36:43: Well Happy New Year to all the viewers of this Thread! I have previously described how to perform a loop, a square loop and a roll. Is there interest in learning, what is and how to perform a host of other aerobatic manoeuvres such as bunt, square loop on side, Immelman (half loop and half roll) Split S (half roll and half loop), Cuban 8, reverse Cuban 8, stall turn, Cobra roll, Fighter turn, Humpty Bump, inverted spin, change spin direction, knife edge, positive snap, negative snap, avalanche (loop, or bunt, with snap at top) Any others? Apart, that is from integrated manoeuvres, such as rolling circles etc – more on those later on if you want it. Yes please Peter, Lets keep this informative thread going. I'm really enjoying reading it, I'm learning many new things (some of which I didn't even know that I didn't know) and look forward to putting things into practice as the new year unfolds. Steve.
  19. I'm a bit late to the party but I managed four flights with my Acromaster this morning; first one being at about 10:30. Steve.
  20. Happy New Year to all. Off to the field in half an hour and the Acromaster has the honour of being first on the flightline for 2014.
  21. Many thanks gentlemen. Mum and son are doing fine albeit a bit on the tired side. Now, I'm doubly chuffed because after four weeks of waiting my Angel S30e has finally arrived and boy does it look beautiful. Think I'm going to be busy over the new year! Steve.
  22. Thanks very much for the feedback guys. DX8 it will be! Steve.
  23. Thinking of upgrading my Dx6i in the new year. I've never had a problem with it during about 4 years of ownership. But, now the model collection has grown, the internal memory is full, and I'm swapping Rx's between models which isn't really to my liking. Additionally, I'm at a point where some extra channels and features will be a real bonus over the 6i. Therefore, unless anyone can come up with an argument against, I'm thinking that the DX8 may be the way forward. Sure, the DX9 may be the all talking all dancing new kid on the block but my budget really can't stretch that far. So, considering that I've been very happy with the Dx6i, is the Dx8 still a logical and worthwhile upgrade? Many thanks, Steve.
