  1. I fly mode 2, learnt and fly in the south of the north west. Self taught.
  2. overall, my experience with al's hobbies is more than positive. Al himself, Clive and a few others are very helpful and have sorted out any problems i've had although there are a few who work at al's hobbies and they couldn't care less.
  3. it closes the sim when i try to join
  4. i've created a room, password is password
  5. sorry, only just noticed it, i can make it at 2
  6. no, i don't get to the field as much as i like but the weather is making it very hard. i've got an adrenaline 90 andi use that a lot on the sim too. we don't currently have a club examiner as we are a rather small club
  7. hi adam, yes i'm using 2.5n. when are you able to help me? it's still the summer holidays so any time is good for methanks again
  8. Hi, looking for someone to help me a bit with getting my B Test sorted. I'm no-where near getting it but i'd just like to know how to do it and what will make my chances of success greater. the room will be on and off daily, whenever i'm on, it will be called Fixed Wing B Test. or just post a comment below, letting me know when you can help and i'll go on and open the room. password will be... ' password '! , all lower case thanks - james
  9. it's very easy to do in real life, it also depends on the examinier you get.. some ask for precision flying, others just ask that you get it back on the ground safely.
  10. RC Modelcenter got them for £45 but out of stock click Here
  11. I got one, bought dirt cheap chinese servos, 32 SC two stroke, dry battery pack , decent spektrum Rx, all cost £122. Not as fun as most of my models but it was dead cheap and I'm happy with it =]
  12. could have been an in-store discount. just had a run around edinbourgh between our two trains for going on holiday and maplins looked like the most interesting store there! went inside and saw it for £4.99 and there were hundereds of them! good bit of fun for holiday as i didn't manage to fit any of my quater scale aircraft into my rucksack =[ it was definitly a silverlit one.
  13. don't think 26cc petrol is enough for a 2 meter pattern flyer, more ideal for a 6 foot plane but you'd need to keep it light. If you can fit it in the cowl of something around the 1.6 meter mark, you would get very good performance. The capiche would fly with it if you kept it very light but you'd find it a bit slugish.
  14. Lancaster Plans sorry, forgot to give you the link!
  15. Hi, Tony does some plans for a 11 foot 2 inch lancaster for 4 x .40 2 stroke but i'm sure .46 engines will be better as they acctually weigh slightly less due to the same size crankcase but bigger bore. his plans are £40 but they're often very good. if it's too much, have a look at ebay - theres a lot in the US so postage could take a while. if you don't have ebay, let me know and i can buy them if you send me the money. James
  16. Hi, just wondering if there'll be any larger scale plans coming up anytime soon? the plans are often 25 size or smaller and i think a lot of people fly larger aircraft (100% of my club do). i'd like to see some, more around the 6 foot mark (or bigger) if possible but i understand if it's not. Thanks - James
  17. for less talented pilots, i'd say the most important thing is a few gallons of cyano... or according to one very confident new pilot in our club, selotape!!!! (he snapped the fuss and taped it back together. i think i can say i've seen it all now =P)
  18. get the JP one - less than £60, decent size, great covering and never heard of any problems with them. mine's great anyway
  19. my friend had one and it was ok but the COG is marked nowhere near where it should be. if you're doubting it's position, a good rule of thumb (for most high wing slow flyers) is to position it one third of the way back from the leading edge. then adjust it a little to fine tune it. nose heavy is always better than tail heavy.
  20. i remember the first time i flew and that was with a hangar 9 funtana 90 that would climb vertically on less than full throttle, it was windy as hell and i had no-one there to help me (i wanted to run before i could walk which i find is very common and rarely succesful). but it still came down in a rather satisfactory number of pieces (two - the fuel filler cap came off lol). so i decided to keep learning on that and it's surived over 8 months so far =]   I'm sure you can add wind, even on the cheapest of flight simulators   If you've got a lot of spare time (and fingers) you can start an engine with no glow or starter motor but i only have 4 strokes now and they are a bit more reluctant to flick start, but definitley worth the extra money and time.   If there's a little cross wind, the best thing to do is learn to use rudder before you get into the habit of not using it - there's some great pilots in my club, however some don't yet know when or how to use rudder. practise some low ish passes, trying to keep it straight along the strip by using rudder and a bit of opposite aileron - don't let it bank at all otherwise before you know it, the wing will be dropped, it'll catch on the ground, flick it over and smash the firewall in.
  21. Hi all, thinking of buying an SC 160 Flat Twin. could someone please tell me the dimensions of it as i need it to fit in my cowl. also, when you make adjustments to the carb, are the adjusments the same for the 2 cylinders or are there adjustments for each cyl? if anyone has one please could they let me know. how smooth do they run? not too familiar with SC 4 strokes so help on running it would be great. thanks - james
  22. hi, i had similar problems when i first used spektrum. you need set the right model then turn the tx off. turn the rx on and then turn the tx on with the trainer switch pulled in. if this doesn't help, let me know and i'll do some experimenting =]
