  1. I have countless projects on the go simultaneously, not all aeromodelling related. Its a constant nag to me that i have too much on in too little time. Still, id rather be dragged to the grave bewailing unfinished projects than stumble into it bored!
  2. To the side. I use to stand behind but after being forced to change by club rules many years ago i learnt to stand to the side. Now anywhere is ok.
  3. Maybe its " goodbye Ripmax, hello Ripmax2023." Good luck to them
  4. I feel that since they were never marked except perhaps in long lost instructions it doesnt matter. No damage can be done.
  5. It certainly appears that the four through hole plated holes were never used so they appear to me to be a red herring. Leaves us with three vertical servo plugs. As suggested...go from rx to anyone of them and to a servo from the other two. Then play around. You might damage the device, which is unlikely, but thats about it. Oh...video it.
  6. Ive never built a Guillows kit before so this Stuka is my only reference but the quality is superb. Every piece fell out of the cut and every piece went exactly where it should. A very enjoyable build.
  7. Its a bit like the letter on the mantlepiece that no one opens yet everyone asks whats inside. There IS only one way. Removing the shrink wont harm it...but the suspense is killing me ha ha
  8. Thats correct and I cant see a way of easily damaging the device itself unless one really tried. However, unless that heatshrink is removed the only way this thing will be identfied is by someone recognising it because they also have / had one. It's odd that an input isn't clearly identified...then i might think servo slow or somesuch but as it is, its a puzzle. Certainly, no harm will come from skinning the beast.
  9. The 125 is the heatshrink value. Looks like a micro rx but has no antenna, so... Id be inclined to cut the heatshrink off and see whats under there
  10. Frankly, just not true. However, if your attitude to safety is as blase as you suggest, perhaps take up boules. Model aviation is not inherently dangerous but it does deserve respect, as do your fellow fliers. Theres clubs and theres clubs. If youve never given club flying a chance you are missing out.
  11. How is this done? A gear box i understand, but what engine? It does sound terrific
  12. Me too about 3 years ago. Are they safe? Yes but treat them like primed bombs. Lipos are driving me back to glow.
  13. Fabricland sell on line too. Ive used them for years for my antenna business. Excellent service really. Thanks for the tip though. Heres fabricland https://fabricland.co.uk/?s=Faux+silk&post_type=product
  14. A lovely range of colours in faux silk too... https://www.fabric-online.co.uk/product/faux-silk/?utm_source=Google+Shopping&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=AP+Feed&gclid=Cj0KCQjwiIOmBhDjARIsAP6YhSVHzMGgyqwbKWT_jqZAkvWMHYyWTEM9wjuRzQ9vwS9pFH1THWyzAH4aAtyHEALw_wcB&attribute_col=Azure
  15. Surely one of the points missing is...do you like i.c.? Many of us regard glow engines (petrol too but not my cup of tea really) as beautiful things in their own right and as such some models are made specifically to fly the engine. I know some moan about exhausts and cylinder heads spoiling a plane but ive left many a cowl off just so i can see the engine! The OP should not regard the powerplant merely as a necessary evil but as another thing to enjoy...or not. I had to smile at the idea of having to garner all the paraphernalia of ic motors...at best a rag and a can of diesel! Slightly more for glow but compared to charger, charge bag or box, packs of cells, plugs, discharge meter, etc ...seems reasonably equally placed in my book. The smell might be an issue but on the other hand i remember still smelling castor on my hands by Wednesday following a good weekend and smiling as i recalled the fun id had. Dont get that with lithium! As i get older, now 60, i am collecting more 4 strokes and see a day when i have gone back to glow power exclusively. Maybe the odd edf.
  16. Ha yeah thats it! What a great looking model from my childhood. Thanks!
  17. I dont recall a car but i well remember the army vehicle. A canvas topped multi wheel job...RM16? Cant remember that detail. Always fancied making one, never did. Old hat now of course a bit like 1977s(?) "Dogfight double" (RCME) the dreams of which tormented my young teenage soul with the usual "want what i cant afford" menaces ha ha and which plans i kept for decades.
  18. True. Whats it smell like? Id still be up for a petrol laser...a piece of history if nothing else D
  19. Goodness!! I have googled it. 35 quid a gallon? i might as well use what i enjoy...glow fuel.
  20. Im going to have to google that. .
  21. I could be interested butndont like petrol fumes. Now a radial laser...
  22. Sad end to an historic company but extremely sad news for us as modellers i should think.
  23. Jon, life is too short and too precious to let that continue. You need to change something. D
  24. I agree. Cheap soldering irons equal bad news. Having said that my old weller station failed and I couldnt stomach the cost so bought a midrange unit. No where near as good, no where near, but it works fine. I wonder whether your flux is acidic or maybe cored solder with acidic flux? My weller heat gun that i bought aged 16, 44 years ago is still going strong and has soldered tens of thousands of joints. I try to buy quality tips as i use it almost everyday and they last long enough for me to forget where i bought them.
