  1. Actually probably answer this myself...same reason single cyls dont vibrate their heads off. Careful counter weight mass balancing and other good design features.
  2. Ah. Thats what i thought. So the laser pistons dont do that but essentially oscillate. Doesnt that give rise to awful vibration? If not, why not?
  3. Your question makes me realise i dont understand how this ft is different from a Boxer or, therefor what a boxer is!
  4. Thanks Jon, looks fabulous doesnt it. I thought it was smaller than that in the photo...goes to show the camera always lies!
  5. I had a eurobat...terrific model. Sadly i fitted a then-crap moki 180 which never really ran right and eventually binned the model i think. Even JE couldnt make it run. Plane was good though.
  6. Nick, whats the model and engine (duh, i mean apart from Lizzie and laser obvs...)
  7. Nice scale comp at Rollestone, salisbury today...lots of lasers of course plus one clubmate who brought along his newly acquired flat twin...a work of art. Id pop it on a chain and wear it. Also a nice saito 120 three cylinder in a little reliant stinson...very quiet and flew it well but made me question the cost...once its revving and pulling hard to say its not a cheaper single. Still...a radial ahhh.
  8. Im a radio amateur and the way to learn is to do. You can do a course with a local radio club, of one exists, but really you need to build. Half the problem are with bad soldering so the practical skill is vital. Look for amateur radio training books - they cover it all. Then look for amateur kits, there are many and not all for transmitting. Good luck.
  9. So are smart cars, so often seen on british roads. So small they are one step removed from pointless for anyone and to someone of my size, a hefty 6ft3, absolutely so. Furthermore they wont carry a model.
  10. I have two gallons, part used, of verynold MT fuel and i test run my engines on the bench with it. They run and idle perfectly but im sure all nitro vanished long ago. I guess it comes down to what we find works we use.
  11. Ha ha i can actually hear that right now!!!
  12. Not sure theres ANY anti american sentiment expressed here but folks see what they want to see. The US and the British environments are different in myriad ways and similar ditto. Im sure it must affect how and what we fly.
  13. Wow If i were clever id calculate the g imposed on the driver! Thats a lot of expensive fuel too.
  14. 5000 ft is considered 75pc power in full size piston aviation. Full throttle only gives 75pc power, so yes, nitro might help.
  15. Ah thanks. Yes weve contacted him, seems pricey but then all things are. I just wondered if anyone had one. Cant see whats wrong wi a lemonade bottle myself. Thank you tho
  16. Well i use it to monitor leaks i guess. Over the years ive blown off more than fuel tube and i have filled a fuel tank bay before now. The hand pump alerts me to this error in a away a leccy one might not. Fifty years of modelling...ive made mistakes.
  17. Jon, i agree 100pc and your comments ref the american influence are what i suspected. Its all expensive nonsense in the end. Times change though. Nigel R...yes it is ha ha. Maybe not. Im sure most modellers are limited to car size but the numbe of large models is far far greater now.
  18. Thanks. Needs to be clear. Im old...i hate carbon.
  19. I. By chriss watt you mean chris foss? Im sure you dont ...whos chriss watt?
  20. Has anyone got a canopy for an xtrawot? My son has refurbed my old one and needs new glazing. In the days when i built it, i would have made do...but oh no, got to be right apparently...
  21. When i fly glow i do the same. Im actually just getting back into glow models and am using a hand pump again for this reason. One can time an electric pump of course but nothing as satisfyingly accurate as the gentle grind of a pump full of fuel being mentally counted off.
  22. Ive always been puzzled...back when i started out the use of nitro was exotic...maybe 5pc for high days andnholidays and 10pc for high end contesters and americans, but it seems 10pc is norm and 12 to 20pc barely raises eyebrows. Why? Are we just richer than our forebears? Or just more liberal with the stuff in the same way that a .60 sized engine was large amd the club average was a .40.?
