  1. Thank you everybody for your thoughts. Think I will go for a simple switch on this model. I have Multiplex Safety switches and Powerbox switches on my larger things but this was for a smallish hack so after your comments, simple switch it is. Thanks again Maxg
  2. Have been flying mostly electric using BEC ESCs recently where you plug in the radio via the flight battery and ESC. Am currently doing a refurb on a model that will need a separate Rx battery pack. Should I fit a switch or should I merely plug in the Rx battery using an extention lead and the Futaba type plug and socket. Which is considered to be the safer option? I must say that in the past I just used the slide type switches like everyone did in those far off times and never thought twice about it. What is the current thinking on such things please. Maxg

    Another Scam

Some years ago I had a call that asked me what I could see on my screen as I had computer problems he could cure. I told him I had a picture of a penguin! He gave me some instructions and then asked me what I could see. I told him I had a picture of a penguin! He asked me to do some more stuff and tell him what was on the screen. I told him I still had a picture of a penguin! He went on and on for about 10 minutes and I kept telling him all I could see was a picture of a penguin! Eventually I got bored and asked him if it mattered that I was running Linux, hence the penguin. He then swore at me which I construed as a win for me. Felt happy at the end. Maxg
  4. Why not use your ramp with a small bungee, Probably made from several large elastic bands and say a 3 metre length of twine. You just need to get it flying and then open the throttle when it is off the ramp. Just a thought Maxg
  5. I have worn glasses since I was 11 so a very long time now. Once I had a pair of bifocals as a work pair because work would not pay for varifocals when they first came out. They were a disaster for me. I went to varifocals and haven't looked back since then. (Sorry about the pun!). I have a fairly strong prescription but I just put them on first thing in the morning and take them off last thing at night. My sunglasses are a pair of varifocals with a gradient tint on, dark at top going to very light at the bottom. Big lenses to give good eye shading. They are great for flying. Can see to fettle models and look at screens through the light part and fly through the darker part. One thing I would say is do not go for a set of lenses which are too shallow from top to bottom as the transition can be too quick. Slightly deeper lenses give a slower transition which is better in my opinion. Maxg
  6. Use a servo tester and plug the landing gear servo or system straight into the tester. Maxg

  8. I have had a cork tile covered 25 mm blockboard board for many years and it is screwed to my workbench top with packers so I know it is flat. One thing I have done is to cover it with thick wallpaper lining paper put on with wallpaper paste. This allows me to draw on it and also cut on it without destroying the cork tiles. When I start a new build I remove the old paper by dampening it and put a new clean layer on. This eliminates the cuts in the covering and also removes any glue blobs and spills that I get on the board. It also gives a new surface to draw on should you wish to. I have a biggish jar of wallpaper paste, usually leftover from decorating, that I keep the paste in and with a tightfitting lid this lasts for a really long time. HTH Maxg
  9. We bought a new phone recently with call blocking features and it has been very successful and we haven't had any nuisance calls since. we programmed the phone book to allow our usual contacts through. We haven't recognised any of the numbers that have been blocked. Maxg
