  1. Posted by McG 6969 on 27/02/2015 19:28:19: Hey to all, As 'eflightray' already mentioned, what's wrong with SketchUp? It's free... a huge amount of people use it worldwide & you can find from props to servos including LiPo's or whatever in online libraries... it as numberless plugins for modelling use... as w/ the 'Flattery' plugin, you can 'unfold' your creation with just 'one' button, group it onto 1 sheet... & print it to '.pdf' in the scale that you decide (if created 'full' scale beforehand, of course)... Easy, no? But of course if your lifetime dream is to 'talk' CAD/CAM & the surrounded software, you should at least invest in a decent CAM- or CNC router or/and an high-end Trotec 500 laser cutter device as well... Happy CADding Chris Brussels, Belgium Well that's the point for me, I have two Denford Orac CNC lathes a CNC micro mill a denford Micro router. All of no use as I need to be able to draw stuff first, I have tried Sketchup I did manage a few basic parts but wanted to go the CAD route proper and Turbocad is going to be a learning curve.
  2. I would like to do a simple tapered box shape fuz with formers that have holes in the middle.and a parallel wing . with ribs then move on to tapered wings and shaped fuz Please It don't have to fly or be made just drawn
  3. Hi Tony I am finding it hard going, the Videos have been of great help, ive along way to. I just want to do model aeroplane plans just like the one Stephen posted on page two
  4. Have managed some squares with rounded corners. Did find out you need to hold the mouse button down to get the options to expand, when looking for the radius tool or any of the ones with white line on them
  5. Great stuff Stephen, I've drawn a circle and a square. Cool
  6. A good Idea CAD for the total novice please please please . with planes in mind not gardens or house electrics. I want How to draw bulkheads ,formers and wing ribs, how to size them etc. No, where to start the drawing. Yes the basic stuff the very first commands the competent user forgets because it's so basic. Me no nothing Mr, please edumacte me please
  7. Oh dear what have I started, So all we need now is a teacher.
  8. Posted by Gavin Mack on 24/02/2015 11:18:02: available for store collection only Turbo Cad 2D/3D deluxe 2013 £34.99 **LINK** Many thanks Gavin, I went this afternoon and purchased it, That was the easy bit, now got to knuckle down and get on with it. Cheers Bert
  9. Hi to all, Many thanks for you input. Yes I have the Mk I and Mk II JR transmitters and have used loads of Spekrtum receivers, I just fancied a new JR receiver for a glider. Is it me JR do a limited amount of different receivers, I have a few JR 921 but nothing smaller, so had to go the Spektrum way for smaller models or have I missed something.
  10. Hi to all, The Jr DSX9 Mk11 2.4gig radio will it operate the DMSS stuff. I am after a small JR receiver to put in a 2 meter electric power glider. Like the look of the JR RG631b 6 chanel. not sure if my tranny will support it
  11. Cool send me some burgers and a cheese cake please Do look for black wire corrosion on all the radio gear, renew the switch as previously suggested, it ain't worth not doing. I found it out the hard way, a £5.00 switch or a £50.00 rebuild, yep I'm fifty quid down. Edited By bert baker on 22/02/2015 17:49:11
  12. We used to years ago put methanol into the air brake systems on lorries, in order to stop the brakes freezing on. If you want to go really overboard on storage squeeze out any air left in the container. Best thing is to use loads and have much fun.
  13. Prosynth 10, on all my two and four stroke engines, can't say I have ever favored any plug type, I don't think the fuel cares. The only fuel I have ever had problems with was Hot aero juice from Modelworld, it destroyed the bearings in a two stroke and had a bottom wrecked when used it with a four stroke, chucked rest away.
  14. Can you save and export to CAM software ie mach3 for cnc use
  15. Hi to all, I just went on to the Lidl website and found they are doing a 12volt oil pump that may suit some of the Jet set £11.99
  16. No bodies fool proof, it wont be the last time it happens. Hindsight control, rudder rudder rudder forget the ailerons. Not an easy thing to remember two inches of the ground. Just after a hand launch the plane I was going to fly caught a cross wind gust and went into a knife edge and would not return the way it came from. I often ponder if it would have been better to roll it more and push out inverted, easy thing to think of after the event.
  17. Hmm I keep thinking of the total redundancy bit, You want to keep both elevators joined together, so the two servo video set up looks great as long as the cable does not break, it will give reduced movement, but extra lift should be available because of the wing section. balanced with throttle control. and a nose weight for the other way, I take it is just to get back anywhere on the ground safely and not fly a circuit or two Is the wing section big enough to take a modified version of the dual elevator servo set up, could smaller servo's be used.as they will be doubled up if all is ok. Although a reduced throw will occur during a failure you would still have the rudder to help out. the servos may have to be nearer the root rib and push rod and bell crack to the control Hmm could all the extra back ups be the down fall of the whole setup.
  18. Hi Jez , Have you had a problem in the past that keeps niggling away at you. You have built some very nice models, what makes this one different from the rest. I do find it mind boggling the amount of different gear available these days, I think if it were me I would use quality servos and double up on the batteries. I would pay the price for a high spec receiver that is of the same manufacture of the transmitter to be used.
  19. I've broke a few wings in my time and on reflection can say I have never seen a wing fail at a dihedral brace. Don't use the plan to build over. There is no guarantee the plan is not distorted, presumably all the ribs are evenly spaced, why not cut the shear webs to on size and use them to space the ribs, It's the dihedral brace that makes it strong you could make end ribs from 1" thick ply and it will still only be as good as the braces. I have built a few small gliders and most did not double up the ribs where the braces were fitted. When built and covered is it a one piece wing or two, I am not familiar with the kit any picks may help
  20. Wow what a thermal we were only 16 when we took off
